Many local fishers are active collaborators on research sampling. We are grateful to have Charlo Blacksmith helping with mixed-stock harvest sampling of + in Lake, this summer! Photos:

Some beautiful bycatch captured while targeting on Mistasiniishish (Albanel) Lake in for FISHES () research. Fish that do not survive the experimental nets are donated to the Nation of Mistissini’s elders home for traditional consumption.

One goal of FISHES is to incorporate place names in research reports+papers. We’ve recently learned that Lac Albanel, – the location of our latest field expedition – is mistasiniishish ᒥᔅᑕᓯᓃᔑᔥ in , meaning ‘lesser great rock’. A beautiful place!
