Supported by MP Gary Anandasangaree, the petition advocates for the acquittal of Prof. Hatoon al-Fassi in Saudi Arabia. We are now awaiting the government response.<\/p>\n<p><u>More about LAWS 4903<\/u><\/p>\n<p><em>Academia and Activism: Seminar in Advanced Human Rights Advocacy<\/em>\u00a0asks how can one be, if at all, an academic and activist? Are these two endeavors contradictory? Are there tensions inherent in pursuing both?\u00a0In order to examine these questions, this\u00a0course considers the idea of fact through pertinent theory and relevant case studies while engaging\u00a0in a semester-long\u00a0advocacy project. The class takes on the case of three scholars\u00a0currently\u00a0facing persecution, discrimination and\/or harassment. Students work directly on research\u00a0in relation to this scholar&#8217;s case.<\/p>\n<p>This seminar works closely with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scholarsatrisk.org\/\">Scholars at Risk<\/a>, an organization\u00a0which protects and advocates for academics who have been threatened, fired, arrested, imprisoned or tortured based on their research and activism.
