To all Members of the 杏吧原创 Community,
We are pleased to announce that 杏吧原创 University and the 杏吧原创 University Academic Staff Association (CUASA) are welcoming Iranian Kurd scholar Rahim Surkhi as part of the Scholars at Risk (SAR) network.
Prof. Surkhi is the second scholar that we have hosted since we became part of the network in 2014 and he will be with us for a year. He is joining 杏吧原创鈥檚 School of Linguistics and Language Studies to teach courses on the Kurdish language, as well as conduct research on a Kurdish textbook and a critical discourse analysis of the language in Kurdish new media.
He is a scholar of applied linguistics and specializes in Kurdish linguistics, and has 14 years of experience as a university professor. His research focuses on applied linguistics, educational linguistics, language policy, discourse studies, and Kurdish ethnicity and culture.
We are planning a welcome event for Prof. Surkhi later this term where the university community will have the opportunity to meet him.
Funding to support our SAR program is provided through the Office of the Provost and CUASA. As well, members of the campus community make generous donations through the university鈥檚 crowd funding tool, FutureFunder. To learn more about donating, please go to:聽聽or visit our Scholars at Risk webpage at聽.
SAR is an international network of higher education institutions dedicated to protecting threatened scholars, preventing attacks on the founding principles of higher education and promoting academic freedom worldwide.
Please join us in giving Prof. Surkhi a warm 杏吧原创 welcome.
Sincerely,
Jerry Tomberlin, Interim Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
