Music history, theory, composition, and performance are complemented by your choice of arts, social science, and science elective courses within a required pattern for the degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your program is an Honours degree requiring 20.0 credits and, normally, four years to complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"courses-required-for-first-year\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>Courses Required for First Year<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first year of your Bachelor of Music program <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/people\/tasneem-ujjainwala\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Music Program Coordinator<\/a> will provide you with the course choices based on your theory scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">A sample of your first year may look like this:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n        \n    <div class=\"grid gap-6 mx-auto my-6 cu-column md:gap-10 md:grid-cols-2 md:my-10 first:mt-0\">\n        \n<div class=\"cu-column-content\">\n    \n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Fall term<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MUSI 1900 0.5 credit (Performance\/Private lessons)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MUSI 1020 0.5 credit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MUSI 1700 0.5 credit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MUSI 1711 0.5 credit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elective 0.5 credit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/ensembles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ensemble<\/a> (student\u2019s choice)<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"cu-column-content\">\n    \n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Winter Term<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MUSI 1901 0.5 credit (Performance\/Private lessons)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MUSI 1020 0.5* credit&nbsp;(*this course is a continuation of the Fall credit)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MUSI 1701 0.5 credit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MUSI 1720 0.5 credit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elective 0.5 credit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/music\/ensembles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ensemble<\/a> (student\u2019s choice)<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>Ensembles: it is strongly recommended that students in first year consult with their Undergraduate Advisor and the Music Performance Studies Coordinator before choosing their Ensemble choice for first year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: The Music Program Coordinator will email incoming students to let them know which theory courses they should take based on their online theory test results.
