Free electives give you the opportunity to explore other areas of interest and use these credits to satisfy the requirements of additional program elements such as a Minor or Stream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All program requirements are <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/undergradprograms\/business\/#Bachelor_of_Accounting__Honours\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">outlined in the Undergraduate Calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"before-you-register\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before you Register<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Read through this guide before registering in your first-year courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Register in both Fall and Winter term courses as soon as your registration time-ticket opens \u2013 do not wait to add your Winter term courses as they will fill up!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students typically register in 5.0 credits in the academic year \u2013 this includes 2.5 credits in the Fall term and 2.5 credits in the Winter term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you wish to take a reduced course load, <a href=\"https:\/\/sprott.carleton.ca\/current-students\/undergraduate-students\/academic-advising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">consult with a Sprott Program Advisor<\/a> to understand the potential impact on your progression. As a BIB student you will need to satisfy specific course and credit prerequisites for the year abroad.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete your language placement in June \u2013 you must register in your language courses as soon as your time ticket opens to ensure your progression.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many first-year courses will have multiple sections of the same course \u2013 to know what section to register in, read through the Section Information of each course on ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ Central and look for sections reserved for Business students. For example, BUSI 1800 will have sections reserved for business students and other sections open to students in non- Business programs. As a BIB student you must register in a section reserved for Business students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When registering for courses with tutorial sections, be sure to register in both a lecture section, and a corresponding tutorial section. Typically, a lecture section will have a letter listed next to it (i.e., BUSI 1800 A), while a corresponding tutorial section will have both a letter, and a number next to it (i.e., BUSI 1800 A01) \u2013 you must register in both!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"bib-first-year-course-selection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">BIB First Year Course Selection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>1. BUSI 1701: Introduction to International Business (0.5 credit)<br>When: Fall term.<br>Notes: This course includes a tutorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. BUSI 1800: Introduction to Business (0.5 credit)<br>When:\u00a0Fall term.<br>Notes:\u00a0BUSI 1800 is a prerequisite for BUSI 1011 \u2013 this means that BUSI 1800 must be successfully completed in the Fall term to continue with BUSI 1011 in the Winter term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. BUSI 1011: Financial Accounting for Business Students\u00a0(0.5 credit)<br>When: Winter term.<br>Notes: Add this course to your Winter registration after registering for BUSI 1800 in the Fall term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. ECON 1001: Introduction to Economics: Microeconomics (0.5 credit)<br>When:\u00a0Fall term.<br>Notes:\u00a0 Be sure to register in a section that is reserved for business students!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. ECON 1002: Introduction to Economics: Macroeconomics\u00a0(0.5 credit)<br>When:\u00a0Winter term<br>Notes:\u00a0Be sure to register in a section that is reserved for business students!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6. BUSI 1401: Foundations of Information Systems\u00a0(0.5 credit)<br>When:\u00a0Fall OR Winter term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7. MATH 1009: Mathematics for Business\u00a0(0.5 credit)<br>When:\u00a0Fall OR Winter term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.\u00a0BUSI 1995: Employability Passport\u00a0(0.0 credit)<br>When:\u00a0Fall OR Winter term.<br>Notes:\u00a0This is a mandatory,\u00a0non-credit\u00a0course for Business students. BUSI 1995 is a prerequisite for the Year Abroad and must be completed for progression by the end of your second year. We recommend that you complete this requirement in Year 1 as it will help set you up for success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9. Language Requirement<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Step 1:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sprott.carleton.ca\/students\/undergraduate\/bib\/bib-language-selection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Declare your BIB Language on the\u00a0BIB Language Selection Form<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Step 2:\u00a0Complete the level placement process outlined on the BIB Language Selection Form page for your selected language as soon as possible. Your required language courses will be determined by your language assessment and placement. You must complete these specific courses to remain eligible for exchange.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Step 3:\u00a0Register in the appropriate course based on your placement. Some languages are very popular and you must therefore secure your seat in both terms as soon as your time-ticket opens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sprott.carleton.ca\/current-students\/undergraduate-students\/academic-advising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Consult a Sprott Program Advisor<\/a>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>to discuss language options and your selection. Selecting your language is an important decision for your progression in the BIB program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you place higher than Level 1 in your selected language (i.e. fully test-out or are given advanced standing) to discuss your individualized plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have questions about your progression and registration.
