thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. They examine a diverse range of topics, such as how we think and learn, how we interact with others, and how we can promote healthy development and wellness. This is accomplished by conducting research so that the knowledge gained can help us better understand the human mind, enhance well-being and performance, and generate additional research questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of our programs provide opportunities to explore psychology\u2019s major areas within the context of an active and diverse research environment. Our honours programs offer <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/concentrations\/\">five concentrations<\/a> for students wishing to focus on one of these major areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/research\/research-areas\/cognition-perception\/\"><strong>Cognitive Psychology<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/research\/research-areas\/developmental\/\"><strong>Developmental Psychology<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/research\/research-areas\/forensic\/\"><strong>Forensic Psychology<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/research\/research-areas\/health\/\"><strong>Health Psychology<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/research\/research-areas\/personality-social\/\"><strong>Social and Personality Psychology<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that concentrations are not necessary to find a job or get admitted into any particular graduate program. They do allow students, however, to enjoy thematically related courses they are passionate about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"bachelor-of-arts-program\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bachelor of Arts Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/regulations\/academicregulationsandrequirementsforthebachelorofartsdegree\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bachelor of Arts<\/a> (BA) comprises 杏吧原创\u2019s largest degree program and intends to provide you with both a solid introduction to one or more academic disciplines and a broad range of transferable skills that will help you succeed in whatever life brings after graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences offers a three-year program leading to a BA in Psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/undergraduate\/programs\/b-a-general\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bachelor of Arts (BA)<\/a> in Psychology provides a good foundation for occupations that deal with psychological issues but is not intended to prepare you for a career as a professional psychologist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"honours-programs\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Honours Programs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>If you are interested in becoming a professional psychologist, you should consider one of our Honours programs.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences offers a <em>four-year<\/em> Honours program leading to a <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/undergraduate\/programs\/b-a-honours-psychology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bachelor of Arts (Honours)<\/a> in Psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Faculty of Science offers a <em>four-year<\/em> Honours program leading to a <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/undergraduate\/programs\/b-sc-honours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bachelor of Science, B.Sc (Honours)<\/a> in Psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both the B.A. (Honours) and the B.Sc. In addition to a number of core courses in the fourth year, Honours students either design and carry out a supervised research thesis or participate in an honours project class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/undergradprograms\/psychology\/#Psychology____BA_Combined_Honours\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bachelor of Arts, BA (Combined Honours)<\/a> in Psychology program allows you to combine your studies in psychology with studies in another discipline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"minors\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Minors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We are proud to announce that we are now offering a minor in <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/minor-in-human-resources-and-management-for-b-a-honours-psychology\/\">Management and Human Resources<\/a> for psychology students! The minor was created cooperatively by the Department of Psychology and the Sprott School of Business for students who wish to learn more about management, human resources, and marketing while also deepening their knowledge about psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.carleton.ca\/minors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">View a list of major programs available as minors<\/a> and a list of programs offered exclusively as minors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can only complete one Psychology Minor as part of their degree program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"co-op\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Co-op<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Experiential education has always been an important component of our program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/co-operative-education-option-co-op\/\">Co-op option<\/a> is available for BA (Honours) and B.Sc (Honours) students in psychology and affords opportunities for students to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Combine their academic studies with experience in applied environments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implement their psychological knowledge and skills across a variety of settings, including government departments, community agencies, and the private sector.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Become more engaged with the planning of life after graduation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Achieve an enhanced knowledge of potential career paths.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cultivate professional skills associated with success.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to an organization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establish valuable contacts in the community.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actively reflect on their experiences at work and express these ideas via work term reports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Facilitate the transition from university into the workplace.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"practicum\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practicum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The primary purpose of a <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/undergraduate-2\/current-students\/practicum-community-psychology\/\">Practicum<\/a> in Community Psychology is to provide students with the opportunity to combine their academic studies with experience in an applied environment. Some placements are research-based, while others are more applied in nature. If you are passionate about one of our areas of research, the relevant concentration will provide you with a \u201croad map\u201d that will help you choose the very best courses for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, your concentration will be formally recognized when you graduate.
