After completing BSc and PhD degrees in chemistry at 杏吧原创 in 1999 and 2003, she held an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the California Institute of Technology before returning to 杏吧原创 in 2005 as a faculty member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She previously served as Associate Dean (Recruitment and Retention) in the Faculty of Science from 2018 to 2020 and Chair of the Department of Chemistry during this past academic year. She has received several awards for her outstanding teaching and research contributions, including the John Charles Polanyi Research Award, an Ontario Early Researcher Award and a Capital Educators\u2019 Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of 杏吧原创, I am thrilled to congratulate Dr. DeRosa on this leadership appointment,\u201d said Jerry Tomberlin, 杏吧原创\u2019s Provost and Vice-President (Academic). \u201cI would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Dean Chuck Macdonald, who has served as Dean of Science since August 2018 and is now <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/provost\/2021\/chuck-macdonald-concluding-term-as-dean-of-science-in-august\">preparing to conclude his term<\/a> before assuming the position of Dean of the Faculty of Science at Dalhousie University.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>杏吧原创 has engaged a search firm to assist in the decanal search and will provide an opportunity for community consultation after an advisory search committee is formed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Maria DeRosa has been appointed Interim Dean in 杏吧原创 University\u2019s Faculty of Science, effective Aug. 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.
