Coalition For a Better Future Panel Discussion /politicalmanagement/cu-events/coalition-for-a-better-future-panel-discussion/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=coalition-for-a-better-future-panel-discussion Mon, 13 Jan 2025 18:18:43 +0000 /politicalmanagement/?post_type=cu-events&p=6027

What Does a Better Canada Look Like?

Canada is at a critical juncture. Confidence in our system of government is eroding, and recent political turmoil has only deepened the cracks. Many Canadians feel disconnected from decision-making processes, distrustful of institutions, and uncertain about the future. These challenges demand urgent attention, but they also present an opportunity to reimagine what a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable Canada could look like.

The is committed to this vision. As a Canadian organization, the Coalition works to promote sustainable economic growth, foster social progress, and champion environmental stewardship. By bringing together a diverse array of voices—business leaders, labor groups, community organizations, policymakers, and advocates—it strives to build a future that ensures long-term prosperity, equity, and resilience for all Canadians.

Through thoughtful dialogue and collective action, the Coalition for a Better Future is convening Canadians to ask hard questions and develop practical solutions. By engaging diverse stakeholders, we aim to turn discontent into determination and division into unity.

Meet Our Guest Speakers:

The Honourable A. Anne McLellan
Co-chair, Coalition for a Better Future

The Honourable Lisa Raitt
Co-chair, Coalition for a Better Future
Vice-Chair Global Investment Banking, CIBC Capital Markets

Moderated by MPM Program Director, André Turcotte

The discussion will feature:

  • Why is working across party lines so challenging in today’s political climate? What are the root causes of political polarization, and how do they affect collaboration?
  • What solutions exist to bridge the divide between parties?
  • Can we draw lessons from other countries’ experiences in overcoming political gridlock?
  • Why should young people get involved in the political process, and how can they contribute to shaping long-term, sustainable policies? What unique perspectives can the younger generation bring to the table, and what practical ways can they influence policy?
  • How can we encourage a culture of collaboration rather than confrontation in politics?
  • What are the risks if we fail to work across party lines for long-term policy development?
  • In the context of sustainability and climate change, how important is cross-party collaboration?
  • Are there specific policy areas where cooperation is essential for achieving long-term sustainability goals?
