His research focuses on the Middle East, in particular Iran and Yemen, on the role of intelligence in national security and foreign policy making, on Canadian foreign and defence policy, and on international relations theory. He is the author of <i>Squandered Opportunity: Neoclassical realism and Iranian foreign policy<\/i> (Stanford University Press, 2015) and of <i>Le Y\u00e9men en guerre <\/i>(Presses de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al, 2021), co-author of <i>Intelligence Analysis and Policy Making: The Canadian <\/i>Experience (Stanford University Press, 2021), editor of <i>Strategic Analysis in Support of International Policy Making: Case studies in achieving analytical relevance <\/i>(Rowman &amp; Littlefield, 2017), and co-editor of <i>Canadian Defence Policy in Theory and Practice<\/i> (2019), <i>Top Secret Canada<\/i> (University of Toronto Press, 2021) and <i>Iranian Foreign Policy Since 2001: Alone in the World<\/i> (Routledge, 2013). He has published articles in, among other publications, <i>International Affairs<\/i>, <i>Studies in Conflict and Terrorism<\/i>, <i>Survival<\/i>, <i>Political<\/i><i> Science Quarterly<\/i>, <i>Nonproliferation Review<\/i>, <i>Orbis<\/i>, <i>International Journal<\/i>, <i>Canadian Foreign Policy<\/i>, <i>Canadian Public Administration<\/i>,<i> Middle East Policy<\/i>, and <i>International Studies Perspectives<\/i>. He is also a non-resident fellow with the Sanaa Center for Strategic Studies.
