{"id":5065,"date":"2022-08-31T12:04:56","date_gmt":"2022-08-31T16:04:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/?page_id=5065"},"modified":"2026-01-14T14:12:05","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T19:12:05","slug":"requesting-academic-accommodations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/current-students\/academic-accommodations\/requesting-academic-accommodations\/","title":{"rendered":"Requesting Academic Accommodations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n            <div class=\"cu-textmedia flex flex-col lg:flex-row mx-auto gap-6 md:gap-10 my-6 md:my-12 first:mt-0 max-w-5xl\">\n        <div class=\"justify-start cu-textmedia-content cu-prose-first-last\" style=\"flex: 0 0 100%;\">\n            <header class=\"font-light prose-xl cu-pageheader md:prose-2xl cu-component-updated cu-prose-first-last\">\n                                    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] pb-5 after:w-10 text-cu-black-700 not-prose\">\n                        Requesting Academic Accommodations\n                    <\/h1>\n                \n                                \n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Before you can request academic accommodations through the Ventus Student Portal you must have already completed the intake and registration process with the Paul Menton Centre.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/registering-with-pmc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Registration information is available on our Registering with PMC webpage<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"requesting-academic-accommodations\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requesting Academic Accommodations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you are ready to use Ventus to request your accommodations, follow the steps below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Login<\/strong> to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ventus.carleton.ca\/student\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ventus Student Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Before you select accommodations in Ventus, <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">review the evaluation requirements (e.g. test, exams, assignments, presentations, group work, class attendance etc.) for each course.<\/strong> Only request accommodations which are needed for each particular course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Select exam and\/or teaching accommodations<\/strong> from your list of template accommodations for each course at the <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">beginning of every term<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">tests or midterms<\/strong> scheduled during the term, please request accommodations&nbsp;at least <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">10 business days<\/strong> before your first test.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">final exams<\/strong>, the deadlines to request accommodations are published in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/academicyear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University academic calendars<\/a>\u00a0for both undergraduate and graduate students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Note that <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">some accommodations are&nbsp;pre-approved or&nbsp;self-serve&nbsp;while other<\/strong><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">s<\/strong><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\"> are&nbsp;pending&nbsp;and require approval<\/strong> from your PMC Coordinator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your approved accommodations for a course will show up in your professor\u2019s Ventus Faculty Portal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You also have the option to opt-out of accommodations for a course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Meet with each professor or lab instructor<\/strong> in an in-person or virtual meeting to discuss which of your template accommodations are applicable to the course and how they will be implemented. For example, if you do not have any fixed duration tests or exams in the course, the exam accommodations will not be applicable.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you have exam accommodations, discuss with your professor about submitting a Notice of Examination (NoE) to the McIntyre Exam Centre (MEC).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you need a peer note-taker, kindly ask your professor to make an announcement in class and\/or Brightspace for a volunteer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Contact your PMC Coordinator<\/strong> if there are any issues with your accommodations at any time during the term.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"letters-of-accommodations-loas\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Letters of Accommodations (LoAs)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Letters of Accommodation(s) are automatically generated by Ventus once you have requested your accommodations (in Ventus) for an academic term and they have been approved by your PMC coordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Note that your course instructors are issued a copy of this letter via the Ventus Factulty portal.<\/strong> You do not need to forward a copy to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"to-view-your-loas\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">To view your LoAs&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Navigate to the &#8220;Letters&#8221; tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From the course dropdown, select a course for which your coordinator has issued an LoA and click the View button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Letter of Accommodation will load with a Print button for you to print a hard copy or print to PDF<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"729\" src=\"https:\/\/its-cuthemedev1.carleton.ca\/ventushelp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/186\/Letters-tab-1.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of the Student portal Letters tab, showing the Course dropdown list and View button\" class=\"wp-image-729\" style=\"width:411px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"730\" src=\"https:\/\/its-cuthemedev1.carleton.ca\/ventushelp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/186\/Letters-tab-02.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of Ventus Student Letters Tab indicating the Course dropdown menu.\" class=\"wp-image-730\" style=\"width:367px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"more-information\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Information\u2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>More information about using Ventus to request your accommodations is available in our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/faq-requesting-academic-accommodations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Requesting Academic Accommodations FAQ<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before you can request academic accommodations through the Ventus Student Portal you must have already completed the intake and registration process with the Paul Menton Centre.
