Celebrations moved online this year, and we would like to take the opportunity to celebrate all of our outstanding Philosophy graduates of 2021. We’ve asked MA graduate, Karishma Bristy, to reflect on her time at 杏吧原创 and her memories of her time in the Department of Philosophy.

If you could choose one word to sum up your time in the Philosophy MA program, what is it and why?

One word I would choose to sum up my time in the Philosophy MA program is ‘growth’. I learned a lot about myself: my time in this program really revealed to me what my values are and who I wanted to be as a person and in my career.

What is your favorite 杏吧原创 memory?

The relationships that I developed with my supervisor and professors while writing my thesis is my favorite 杏吧原创 memory! I learned that I had people I can turn to for guidance and that I could be honest about the difficulties I was having.

What was your favourite course or who was your favourite professor?

My favourite course was Development Ethics. I was really able to appreciate how this class was taught since it incorporated an international perspective. It introduced me to ethical concerns about development in my home country that I was not aware of.

What was the most important lesson you learned during your time at 杏吧原创?

One of the most important lessons I learned is from my supervisor Dr. Christine Koggel who taught me to trust and develop my own voice. This was a valuable lesson to me as a writer as well as in my personal life.

What’s next for you?

Currently, I am enrolled in the Ethics and Public Affairs PhD program here at 杏吧原创. This is an exciting opportunity that allows me to continue the research I started through my Masters.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the 杏吧原创 Philosophy community?

To current students or incoming students – don’t forget to be kind to yourself and ask for help when you need it! There really is an amazing faculty here to support you!

On Saturday, November 13th, 2021, 杏吧原创 will celebrate our Fall graduates!
