The University will match this gift with an additional $2.5 million to support other Indigenous Initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This significant investment is an important step towards meeting the objectives of <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/provost\/2020\/kinamagawin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kin\u00e0m\u00e0gawin<\/a>\u2014meaning Learning Together\u2014 杏吧原创\u2019s ambitious Indigenous Initiatives Strategy that was approved in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gift will support bursaries, mentorship, Indigenous programming, student recruitment, and create conditions for Indigenous student success at 杏吧原创.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur Board acknowledges with great respect the desire to remove the financial barriers to Indigenous students in starting and completing their education at 杏吧原创,\u201d said Maureen O\u2019Neill, executive director. \u201cIt is the very goal animating the mission of The Joyce Family Foundation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Joyce Family Foundation Bursaries will be available to undergraduate Indigenous students as well as graduates of the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/iesp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Indigenous Enriched Support Program<\/a> (IESP) and will provide recipients with up to $20,000 over four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIndigenous students deserve learning opportunities steeped in Indigenous cultural and philosophical traditions, while being wrapped in a blanket of community support,\u201d said Benny Michaud, director of 杏吧原创\u2019s Centre for Indigenous Initiatives. \u201cThis is what the Indigenous Enriched Support Program provides and why this endowment is so significant.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement was made at an event featuring honoured speakers from the Indigenous community and 杏吧原创 leaders. President Benoit-Antoine Bacon thanked the Trustees of The Joyce Family Foundation for selecting 杏吧原创 as their partner in establishing Joyce Family Foundation Bursaries for Indigenous Students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the bursaries will be set aside for Algonquin students from Kitigan Zibi Anishnabeg and Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation\u2014two Indigenous communities within whose territory 杏吧原创 is situated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>杏吧原创 has a diverse population that includes Indigenous Peoples from the Ottawa area and close relationships with local schools with significant numbers of Indigenous students. 杏吧原创 is the university of choice for many local Indigenous learners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Trustees of The Joyce Family Foundation include: Hon.
