\n 杏吧原创 University President Benoit-Antoine Bacon Reappointed for Second Term\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

杏吧原创 University\u2019s Board of Governors has reappointed President and Vice-Chancellor Benoit-Antoine Bacon<\/a> for a second five-year term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision at the June 1, 2021 board meeting followed a unanimous recommendation from the advisory committee tasked with overseeing the renewal process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPresident Bacon has shown exceptional leadership, always emphasizing the university\u2019s core mission of student success, innovative academic programming and excellence in research, all while navigating through governmental funding changes and a global pandemic,\u201d said Board Chair Dan Fortin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have full confidence that under his guidance, 杏吧原创 will continue to grow as a leader in higher education and empower those within our community to drive positive impact in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bacon began his first five-year term at 杏吧原创 on July 1, 2018. He recently received a 2021 Inspiration Award from the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health for his work as a mental health champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m honoured to continue to serve the 杏吧原创 community at this time of both significant challenge and opportunity for the university,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to helping the university navigate the biggest public health crisis in a century and the accompanying rapid shift to online learning, Bacon has played a lead role in a number of significant accomplishments during his first three years as president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They include a record-breaking $86.5 million in external research funding over the past year to tackle some of the world\u2019s most pressing challenges, including COVID-19, as well as new partnerships with Ericsson, BlackBerry QNX<\/a> and other companies that are creating cutting-edge research and experiential learning opportunities for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has also overseen expansion at the 杏吧原创 campus with the new Advanced Research and Innovation in Smart Environments (ARISE) building \u2013 a hub specifically designed for multidisciplinary research partnerships with government and the private sector, and the soon-to-be-completed Nicol Building, a new state-of-the-art home for the Sprott School of Business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bacon recognized the need to develop new strategies for a rapidly changing future, driving the development of an ambitious new Strategic Integrated Plan<\/a> for the university, as well as a new Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan<\/a>, and he is implementing the 41 Calls to Action of Kin\u00e0m\u00e0gawin<\/a>, 杏吧原创\u2019s revitalized Indigenous strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
