{"id":68573,"date":"2020-08-27T11:00:30","date_gmt":"2020-08-27T15:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/?p=68573"},"modified":"2025-08-19T09:36:29","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T13:36:29","slug":"updated-mask-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/2020\/updated-mask-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Updated Mask Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n            <div class=\"cu-textmedia flex flex-col lg:flex-row mx-auto gap-6 md:gap-10 my-6 md:my-12 first:mt-0 max-w-5xl\">\n        <div class=\"justify-start cu-textmedia-content cu-prose-first-last\" style=\"flex: 0 0 100%;\">\n            <header class=\"font-light prose-xl cu-pageheader md:prose-2xl cu-component-updated cu-prose-first-last\">\n                                    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] pb-5 after:w-10 text-cu-black-700 not-prose\">\n                        Updated Mask Policy\n                    <\/h1>\n                \n                                \n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<p><em>Visit 杏吧原创&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/coronavirus-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVID-19 website<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To All Faculty and Staff<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>杏吧原创 has updated its Mask Policy to comply with the Mandatory Mask By-law adopted by the City of Ottawa and the recommendations of public health officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using a mask complements, and does not replace, measures recommended by public health officials to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.&nbsp;<u>Working from home, maintaining physical distancing and hand hygiene remain the primary approaches to minimize the risk of virus transmission.<\/u>&nbsp;All faculty and staff are required to read and familiarize themselves with the policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The updated&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ehs\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mask-policyaug-17.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">policy<\/a>&nbsp;requires:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mask use in Enclosed Public Spaces:<\/strong>\u00a0As required by the City of Ottawa By-law, wearing a non-medical mask is required\u00a0<strong>by law<\/strong>\u00a0(with limited exemptions) in all publicly accessible spaces within buildings for all members of the 杏吧原创 community and of the public.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mask use in Non-Public 杏吧原创 Workspaces:<\/strong>\u00a0Within non-publicly accessible 杏吧原创 workplaces (which are not subject to the By-Law) individuals present in 杏吧原创 workplaces are expected to use masks anytime a 2-metre physical distance cannot be consistently maintained, or when they are in common or shared spaces. Examples of such situations include common areas of offices, hallways, lobbies, elevators and high traffic areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Signage has been installed at building entrances to remind faculty, staff, students and any visitors or members of the public of the mask use requirement. Hand sanitizers are also being installed at the entrances to publicly accessible buildings. 杏吧原创 employees may gently and politely remind visitors and members of the public of the mask requirement when they enter publicly accessible areas and direct them to the appropriate signage. Any reminders should be made in good faith, be non-confrontational, and from an educational perspective. Concerns about improper mask usage can be brought to the attention of supervisors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the exception of the buildings listed below, access to buildings remains limited to authorized individuals (faculty, staff, students), and public access is restricted.
