\n FPA Research Series Launches with an International Focus\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

A national gathering of migration and refugee experts is one of the highlights of a new FPA Research Series <\/em>which begins this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ongoing celebration of research in the Faculty of Public Affairs<\/a> will continue with public events in October, November, January, February and March. Events will feature public lectures, research symposia and panel discussions on topics such as migration, labour, digital worlds, trade, national security and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The series builds on the tremendous success of FPA Research Month<\/em>, which attracted almost 10,000 attendees between 2013 and 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA key goal of the FPA Research Series is to bring members of the public, including policy-makers, to 杏吧原创\u2019s campus to engage in discussions on important societal issues with our researchers \u2014 faculty members and students alike,\u201d says Andr\u00e9 Plourde, dean of the Faculty of Public Affairs. \u201cThis is an opportunity for the Faculty to highlight the significant work in which our researchers play leading roles.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focus on Migration Policy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

杏吧原创\u2019s leadership in migration and refugee policy will be reflected in the Informing Migration Policy: International Experience and Evidence Conference<\/em> on Oct. 3 and 4. Hosted by the newly established Migration Policy Research Group, the gathering will include researchers from across the country to share findings with policy-makers and non-governmental leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event has received financial support from 杏吧原创 University\u2019s Multidisciplinary Research Catalyst Fund, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis conference represents a new chapter in 杏吧原创 University\u2019s commitment to migration and refugee policy research,\u201d says Chris Worswick, lead conference organizer and associate dean (Research and International) in the Faculty of Public Affairs. \u201cWe have a tremendous amount of expertise and experience in this area that we look forward to sharing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Bridge Across Civilizations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The series will also feature a joint presentation entitled \u201cA Bridge Across Civilizations\u201d from Communication Prof. Karim H. Karim and Architecture Prof. H. Masud Taj on Oct. 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is part of the celebrations of the 500th<\/sup> anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci\u2019s birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karim\u2019s presentation, \u201cWhat We Choose to Forget,\u201d will focus on the tendency to ignore longstanding intellectual and cultural exchanges between Western and Muslim societies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taj will present \u201cLeonardo da Vinci: From Baghdad to Bayezid,\u201d which will look at da Vinci\u2019s interest in Islam and the East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the public are invited to register for these free events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
