As part of 杏吧原创 University\u2019s Science Caf\u00e9 series, Simon Viel of the Department of Physics<\/a> will present Deep Underground, Looking for Dark Matter<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dark matter is a key mystery of fundamental physics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything we can see around us is made of ordinary matter \u2013 yet models predict that there exists five times more dark matter than ordinary matter in the universe. Scientists around the world are trying to detect dark matter, including researchers working on the DEAP experiment located at SNOLAB in Sudbury, Ont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this talk, Viel will present the evidence for dark matter and discuss one of the ways in which scientists look for it \u2013 in underground detectors using liquid argon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
