Carr applies herself to academics and to disability advocacy, balancing a full course load with volunteer work, dedicating herself to raising awareness of the human rights obstacles that challenge individuals with disabilities. During the fall of 2017, alongside one of her colleagues, she organized <em>The Duty to Accommodate: Disability Discrimination in the Workplace and Classroom <\/em>conference<em>. <\/em>This conference addressed issues faced by persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using her academic knowledge to bring about real-world change, Carr volunteers for the Ticket Defense Program, a mobile legal clinic that provides free legal services to Ottawa\u2019s homeless and street-involved population. In addition, she spent the year conducting research for the Council of Canadians with Disabilities, assisting with a case that appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When<\/strong>: Nov. 30, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where<\/strong>: 杏吧原创 University Art Gallery (CUAG) &#8211; St. Patrick\u2019s Building (lower level). Media are invited to attend.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>杏吧原创 Dr. John Davis Burton<\/strong><br>\nBurton championed and advocated for persons with disabilities. He made significant contributions to increasing awareness, equality and integration of persons with disabilities throughout his career as an educator and co-ordinator of educational support services. He was an advocate for equal access to education, believing in training for educators, as well as support services for the students. Burton taught in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa and co-ordinated programs and services for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing students, as well as students with learning disabilities at Algonquin College and 杏吧原创 University.
