The book is a sequel to Dobson\u2019s highly-praised <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vehiculepress.com\/q.php?EAN=9781550653236\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">With a Closed Fist: Growing up in Canada\u2019s Toughest Neighbourhood<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When<\/strong>: Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at 2:30 p.m.<br>\n<strong>Where<\/strong>: Room 4400, Richcraft Hall, 杏吧原创<br>\n<strong>Info<\/strong>: This event is free and open to the public. A campus map is <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/map.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available online.<\/a> &nbsp;Dobson\u2019s book will be available for sale for $25 (cash, cheque and credit card). Author royalties from the sale will go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintcolumbahouse.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saint Columba House<\/a>, a non-profit social service agency in Point St. Charles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Media are invited to attend the event.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dobson shares her journey of trying to escape from what was once described as the toughest neighbourhood in Canada. Raised by their single mother, Dobson and her five sisters deal with slum landlords, \u201cpervy uncles,\u201d and their father\u2014a mostly absent police officer who does occasional work on the side for the local mob. As Dobson grows up and attends college outside of Point St. Charles, she must learn to survive in an environment where problems aren\u2019t solved by a good punch to the head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is co-hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fpa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Faculty of Public Affairs<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vehiculepress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">V\u00e9hicule Press<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/align\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ALiGN Media Lab<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"about-kathy-dobson\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">杏吧原创 Kathy Dobson<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dobson\u2019s work as a journalist has appeared in <em>The Globe and Mail<\/em>, <em>National Post<\/em> and on <em>CBC Radio<\/em>.
