\n Janine di Giovanni to Deliver 杏吧原创\u2019s Peter Stursberg Foreign Correspondents Lecture on Documenting War\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

杏吧原创 University\u2019s School of Journalism and Communication<\/a>, in collaboration with the Canadian War Museum, will host the second annual Peter Stursberg Foreign Correspondents Lecture<\/a> \u2013 Documenting  War: Journalists and Storytelling from Conflict Zones<\/a><\/em> delivered by Janine di Giovanni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture will draw on di Giovanni\u2019s experience as a journalist who has reported widely on war, conflict and its aftermath for more than 25 years in the Middle East, the Balkans and Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Di Giovanni has witnessed the siege of Sarajevo, the fall of Grozny and the destruction of Srebrenica and Rwanda in 1994 \u2013 as well as more than a dozen active conflicts as a frontline journalist. Formerly the Middle East editor of Newsweek<\/em>, her documentation of war crimes has resulted in seven books and her work has been cited in tribunals. Through the years, her focus has been on international law and international security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture will be moderated by CBC Radio\u2019s Rita Celli (BJ\/91), host of Ontario Today<\/em>. Celli received the Michener-Deacon Fellowship for Investigative Journalism in 2014 for delving into Canada\u2019s diamond industry and mining royalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

杏吧原创 Janine di Giovanni<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Di Giovanni is a senior fellow at Yale University\u2019s Jackson Institute of Global Affairs and a Professor of Practice, Human Rights. From  2017-2018, di Giovanni was the Edward R. Murrow press fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and a Professor of Practice in Human Rights at Columbia University\u2019s School of International and Public Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Di Giovanni\u2019s most recent book, the Morning They Came For Us: Dispatches from Syria, <\/em>has won several awards and was named one of the best human rights books in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

杏吧原创 the Peter Stursberg Foreign Correspondents Lecture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 2017, 杏吧原创\u2019s School of Journalism and Communication, through the generosity of Richard Stursberg and Judith Lawrie, established the Peter Stursberg Foreign Correspondents Lecture. The lecture honours the legacy of famed Canadian war correspondent Peter Stursberg (1913-2014), an adventurous and prolific journalist who was Canada\u2019s last living war correspondent from the Second World War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture recognizes the importance and impact of journalism that bears witness in troubled areas around the world, and is delivered annually by a correspondent with sustained experience reporting from conflict zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
