\n 杏吧原创 to Host 2018 Throwback Celebration\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

杏吧原创 University will welcome thousands of alumni, students and community members to campus for Throwback \u2013 the annual Homecoming celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The week-long festivities honour the brilliant minds and athletic spirit in the 杏吧原创 community and its network of 158,000 alumni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The celebration kicks off Sept. 10 and concludes Sept. 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media and members of the public are welcome to attend Throwback events, including:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


\nMinding the Brain: Live Podcast <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When<\/strong>: Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

\nInfo<\/strong>: Registration is available online<\/a>. Attendees can submit questions in advance by tweeting to @MindingtheBrain or through the registration form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences<\/a> and the Faculty of Science<\/a> will host a live podcast episode of Minding the Brain<\/em><\/a> \u2013 a popular series hosted by professors Kim Hellemans of the Department of Neuroscience<\/a> and Jim Davies of the Institute of Cognitive Science<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minding the Brain<\/em> features discussions about a different mind-related issue every month. Previous topics have included concussions, drugs and how we imagine our futures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this special live recording episode of the podcast titled \u201c20 Questions with Kim and Jim,\u201d Hellemans and Davies will answer listener questions \u2013 before opening the floor to questions from the audience.

MacOdrum Library will host 杏吧原创 Feasts<\/em> \u2013 a step into the literary world to explore the importance of feasts in both fiction and today’s society. The event menu is inspired by the most memorable meals in literature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ravens Hall of Fame<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ravens Athletics will honour five new inductees in the Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Athletes to be honoured include: Earl Cochrane, men\u2019s soccer; Marianne White (n\u00e9e Illing), women\u2019s water polo; Terry McCarthy, men\u2019s hockey; and Harry Van Hofwegen, football. Robert Laughton, of men\u2019s basketball, will be honoured in the Hall of Fame \u201cbuilder\u201d category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2018 Attallah Lecture: Media Forensics: Reading the Canadian Cultural Commodity <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Communication and Media Studies Program, School of Journalism and Communication, will host the 2018 Attallah Lecture: Media Forensics: Reading the Canadian Cultural Commodity<\/em><\/a> presented by Professor Will Straw, James McGill Professor of Urban Media Studies, McGill University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Straw will examine the practices of disguise and deception, through which the Canadian character of certain cultural commodities has been obscured to enhance their legitimacy and commercial appeal.  Straw will propose ways it may be possible to \u201cread\u201d a range of cultural commodities, in hieroglyphic fashion, as evidence of the conditions of their production and the strategies behind their circulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ravens Rally <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join the 杏吧原创 community for a day of entertainment, great food and university pride. The event will feature exciting performances, an obstacle course, food trucks, a local beer garden, and more. There is sure to be something for everyone at the Ravens rally \u2013 which coincides with the annual Homecoming football game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nWhere<\/strong>: 杏吧原创 University Art Gallery, St. Patrick\u2019s Building, 杏吧原创<\/p>\n\n\n\n

杏吧原创 University Art Gallery will host a wine and cheese reception celebrating two new exhibitions: Alootook Ipellie: Walking Both Sides of an Invisible Border <\/em>and Here Be Dragons<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DJ OH JAY (FEELS) will spin live sets at the reception. More information about the exhibitions can be found online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
