\n 杏吧原创 University to Host Launch of David C. Onley Initiative for Employment and Enterprise Development\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

杏吧原创 University will host the launch of the David C. Onley Initiative for Employment and Enterprise Development<\/a> \u2013 a partnership among Ottawa\u2019s post-secondary institutions to develop knowledge, resources and tools supporting students with disabilities in advancing their careers. Envisioned by 杏吧原创\u2019s Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities<\/a> and the Research, Education, Accessibility and Design<\/a> Initiative (READ), this two-year, $5-million initiative is funded by Ontario\u2019s Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project aims to increase employability and entrepreneurship of post-secondary students with disabilities. It will examine factors contributing to lower rates of employment and strive to boost them by engaging industry, building awareness, fostering entrepreneurial endeavors and developing employment supports in post-secondary institutions. It will assist students through applied research, providing access to employability and entrepreneurship resources, and working with employers to address their capacity to support the needs of employees with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Onley Initiative is directed by 杏吧原创\u2019s READ Initiative in partnership with the University of Ottawa, Algonquin College and La Cit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative\u2019s namesake, the Honourable David C. Onley, former Ontario lieutenant-governor, will deliver a keynote address. The presidents of the four post-secondary institutions will confirm their commitment to the Onley Initiative partnership with a signing ceremony.<\/strong>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the first project contributing to the Education City<\/em>, an effort to facilitate collaboration through partnerships among the four post-secondary institutions in Ottawa. The initiative will create eight positions \u2013 two at each school \u2013 dedicated to research and development in disability and career services, as well as two positions \u2013 one at 杏吧原创 and one at Algonquin \u2013 dedicated to the employability of students with autism spectrum disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
