杏吧原创 University\u2019s Board of Governors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon<\/a> as its 15th President and Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Bacon will commence his five-year appointment effective July 1, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The appointment of Dr. Bacon follows an international search process that engaged hundreds of internal and external constituents at 杏吧原创 and in the Ottawa community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn behalf of the 杏吧原创 University community, I am very pleased that our comprehensive search process identified a leader of Benoit\u2019s calibre,\u2019\u2019 said Chris Carruthers, chair of the Board of Governors. \u201cAs 杏吧原创 begins a new era and its next 75 years, the university community will benefit from the energy and vision that Benoit will bring to the presidency. He is an experienced leader, having worked positions of progressive responsibility at other outstanding universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs 杏吧原创 positions itself to respond to a changing university sector and increased competition, Benoit will play a critical leadership role in leading the organization and supporting our students, faculty and staff.  On behalf of the Board, I would like to congratulate Benoit and welcome him to the 杏吧原创 community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An accomplished teacher, researcher and academic administrator, Dr. Bacon will assume his leadership role at 杏吧原创 from Queen\u2019s University where he currently serves as Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is a great honour to be selected as the 15th<\/sup> president of 杏吧原创 University. Ce sera aussi un grand plaisir de travailler et de vivre dans la capitale nationale, une magnifique ville bilingue<\/em>.\u201d says Dr. Bacon. \u201cI look forward to working with the whole community to leverage 杏吧原创\u2019s many outstanding strengths and to further enhance the institution\u2019s relevance and impact nationally and internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to Queen\u2019s, he served as Provost and Vice-President (Academic Affairs) at Concordia University in his hometown of Montreal.  His first academic appointment was at Bishop\u2019s University where he served in a number of leadership positions including Dean of Arts and Science and Associate Vice-Principal (Research).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Bacon will assume a tenured appointment at the rank of professor in 杏吧原创\u2019s Department of Psychology. His research specialty is the neurophysiological and cognitive bases of visual perception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Bacon succeeds Dr. Alastair Summerlee, who was appointed Interim President and Vice-Chancellor in July, 2017.  The Board of Governors and administration extend their appreciation to Dr. Summerlee for his service to the university community during his interim appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Conseil des gouverneurs de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 杏吧原创 est heureux d\u2019annoncer la nomination de Benoit-Antoine Bacon<\/a> au poste de 15e<\/sup> recteur et vice-chancelier de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 杏吧原创. Dr Bacon entrera en fonction le 1er<\/sup> juillet 2018 pour une p\u00e9riode de cinq ans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa nomination survient \u00e0 la suite d\u2019un processus de recherche international ayant mobilis\u00e9 la participation de centaines d\u2019intervenants internes et externes \u00e0 杏吧原创 et au sein de la collectivit\u00e9 ottavienne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avant d\u2019entrer en fonction \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Queen\u2019s, Dr Bacon \u00e9tait provost et vice-recteur aux affaires acad\u00e9miques \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Concordia de Montr\u00e9al, sa ville natale. C\u2019est \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Bishop qu\u2019il a obtenu son premier poste universitaire ainsi que de nombreux autres postes de direction, dont celui de doyen des arts et des sciences et vice-recteur associ\u00e9 (recherche).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Bacon occupera \u00e9galement un poste de professeur permanent au D\u00e9partement de psychologie de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 杏吧原创. Sa sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 scientifique porte sur les bases neurophysiologiques et cognitives de la perception visuelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Bacon succ\u00e8de au Dr Alastair Summerlee, nomm\u00e9 recteur et vice-chancelier int\u00e9rimaire en juillet 2017. Le Conseil des gouverneurs et l\u2019administration remercient Dr Summerlee pour les services rendus \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9 universitaire au cours de sa nomination provisoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
