But the 杏吧原创 Ravens <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/our-stories\/story\/celebrating-women-basketball-winners\/\">women\u2019s basketball squad<\/a>&nbsp;is not your average group of varsity athletes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The women posted a perfect 29-0 record in the regular season and playoffs en route to their <a href=\"https:\/\/goravens.ca\/news\/womens-basketball\/2018\/03\/wbb-ravens-complete-cinderella-story-stand-alone-u-sports-champions\/\">first national title<\/a>, sealed with a 69-48 victory over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in Regina on March 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor Jim Watson officially declared March 28, 2018 is 杏吧原创 University Ravens Women\u2019s Basketball Team Day in Ottawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watson delivered the proclamation in the City Council chamber following a breakfast reception with the team and its staff at City Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/wp-content\/files\/wday2-580x411.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46006\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/wp-content\/files\/mayopr-580x411.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46008\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is the official proclamation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhereas, 杏吧原创 University has over 29,000 students, faculty and staff and over 140,000 alumni worldwide who are part of the Ravens community and share this success; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhereas, on March 11, 2018, the 杏吧原创 University Ravens women\u2019s basketball team won the U SPORTS National Championship title, their first national title in 杏吧原创 University women\u2019s basketball history; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhereas, Taffe Charles was named the OUA and U SPORTS Peter Ennis Coach of the Year; Elizabeth LeBlanc named OUA and U SPORTS Defensive Player of the Year and Championship MVP; and Catherine Traer named U SPORTS Player of the Game and Championship All Star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTherefore, I, Jim Watson, Mayor of the City of Ottawa, do hereby proclaim March 28, 2018, 杏吧原创 University Ravens Women\u2019s Basketball Team Day in Ottawa.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s not every day that the city dedicates a special day to a local university sports team.
