  {"id":45982,"date":"2018-03-26T09:50:14","date_gmt":"2018-03-26T13:50:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/?p=45982"},"modified":"2025-08-19T09:36:45","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T13:36:45","slug":"carletons-rodney-nelson-appointed-to-canadian-museum-of-history-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/news\/2018\/carletons-rodney-nelson-appointed-to-canadian-museum-of-history-board\/","title":{"rendered":"杏吧原创\u2019s Rodney Nelson Appointed to Canadian Museum of History Board"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n            <div class=\"cu-textmedia flex flex-col lg:flex-row mx-auto gap-6 md:gap-10 my-6 md:my-12 first:mt-0 max-w-5xl\">\n        <div class=\"justify-start cu-textmedia-content cu-prose-first-last\" style=\"flex: 0 0 100%;\">\n            <header class=\"font-light prose-xl cu-pageheader md:prose-2xl cu-component-updated cu-prose-first-last\">\n                                    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] pb-5 after:w-10 text-cu-black-700 not-prose\">\n                        杏吧原创\u2019s Rodney Nelson Appointed to Canadian Museum of History Board\n                    <\/h1>\n                \n                                \n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<p>杏吧原创 University Prof. Rodney Nelson has been appointed to the Canadian Museum of History\u2019s Board of Trustees, an 11-member body that oversees operations of the national history museum in Gatineau, Que., and its sister institution on the other side of the Ottawa River, the Canadian War Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nelson is a faculty member with 杏吧原创\u2019s Centre for Initiatives in Education and co-chair of the university\u2019s Indigenous Education Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A traditional knowledge, Indigenous governance, ethics and economic development specialist, he is also the CEO of the Global Governance Group and the former chair of the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the reasons I\u2019m looking forward to working with the museums is because they\u2019re doing a lot on Indigenous representation,\u201d says Nelson. \u201cIt will be good to be part of that, to liaise with Indigenous communities and be part of that conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe museums have been great at reaching out to communities and having community members come in to help create exhibits \u2014&nbsp;their exhibitions are not just collections-based these days but more community-based.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the wake of Canada\u2019s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and a new spirit of dialogue between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians, museums have an important role to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re an element of continued representation and education, and this has to be done in the right way and in a good way,\u201d says Nelson, whose role on the board will entail fiscal oversight and governance \u2014&nbsp;areas in which he has extensive experience \u2014&nbsp;and ensuring that the museums establish long-term strategic plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His four-year term on the museum\u2019s board was announced&nbsp;by Minister of Canadian Heritage M\u00e9lanie Joly on March 21 along with three other new trustees: Jennifer Pereira, Amanda Kingsley Malo&nbsp;and William Young<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe welcome the appointments of these new trustees to our board,\u201d Canadian Museum of History President and CEO, Mark&nbsp;O\u2019Neill, said in a release, \u201cand we look forward to continuing the important work of Canada\u2019s two national museums of history under the leadership of such a talented, diverse and experienced group of Canadians.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>杏吧原创 University Prof. Rodney Nelson has been appointed to the Canadian Museum of History\u2019s Board of Trustees, an 11-member body that oversees operations of the national history museum in Gatineau, Que., and its sister institution on the other side of the Ottawa River, the Canadian War Museum.
