杏吧原创 University\u2019s Philip Kaisary, assistant professor in the Department of Law and Legal Studies<\/a>, will discuss his book The Haitian Revolution in the Literary Imagination <\/em>at the upcoming Author Meets Readers event Radical Visions of Freedom: the Birth of Haiti<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaisary\u2019s book reveals that the Haitian Revolution, the world\u2019s only successful slave revolution, has long since generated \u201cradical\u201d and \u201cconservative\u201d responses. The cultural and political debates inspired by the Haitian Revolution have much to teach us about our moral vision and political hopes today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will feature a short panel Q&A session with Kaisary, 杏吧原创 Prof. Ummni Khan and Jean Wolff, Haitian-born reader and communications specialist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event is part of the Ottawa International Writer\u2019s Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

杏吧原创 Philip Kaisary<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kaisary\u2019s research elaborates on the forms and values of literary, legal and filmic texts generated by the histories of African-descended peoples throughout the Atlantic world. He is cross-appointed to 杏吧原创\u2019s Department of English Language and Literature<\/a> and the Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art and Culture<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Author Meets Readers invites 杏吧原创 students, faculty and the community to join an informal discussion on new books published by members of the Faculty of Public Affairs<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
