Dan Arnold
Instructor, Political Management at 杏吧原创 University

Arnold is available to discuss public opinion on Canada, and natural extensions of that, such as growing Canadian patriotism.

A seasoned campaigner, Arnold oversaw the Trudeau Liberals鈥 research program during their 2015, 2019, and 2021 election victories. He moderated focus groups, led the nightly tracking, and used his seat projection model to map the path to government.

In between these campaigns, he served as Director of Research, Advertising, & Correspondence in the Prime Minister鈥檚 Office. Through this role, he kept tabs on what mattered to the 鈥渞eal people鈥 outside the Parliament Hill bubble and gave hundreds of engaging presentations to staffers, caucus, and Cabinet.

In 2022, Arnold rejoined one of Canada鈥檚 leading polling firms, Pollara, as Chief Strategy Officer. There, he uses quantitative and qualitative research to provide strategic advice to clients from a range of sectors.

Since leaving the federal government, he has conducted polling for political parties in six different provinces, and on many municipal and local level campaigns.

Dominique Marshall

Andrea Howard

Howard studies well-being and health-related behaviours in adolescence and the transition to adulthood, with an emphasis on special challenges facing university students and young people with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. A fundamental assumption behind her work is that all young people have the capacity to thrive.

This has led her to question the validity of popular but negative stories about youth that appear in the media and are embraced by the public but aren鈥檛 clearly supported by empirical research (the 鈥渒ids these days鈥 fallacy). This includes myths about the pervasiveness of helicopter parenting, rampant mental illness, and harmful impacts of smartphones and social media.

Philippe Boucher

Boucher works with Indigenous communities in the field of criminal justice. His research focuses on the experiences of Indigenous Peoples in Canadian criminal courts. He explores how Indigenous legal traditions can contribute to the transformation of criminal justice.

Alexandra Mallett

Duncan McCue

McCue is Anishinaabe, a member of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation in southern Ontario.

McCue, an award-winning CBC broadcaster and leading advocate for fostering the connection between journalism and Indigenous communities. His work now focuses on Indigenous Journalism and (Story)telling.

In addition, McCue is working with 杏吧原创 colleagues to launch a new journalism skills certificate on the ground in Indigenous communities.

McCue was the host of Helluva Story on CBC Radio and was also the driving force behind Kuper Island, a remarkable eight-part podcast series on residential schools.

McCue was with CBC News for 25 years. In addition to hosting CBC Radio One鈥檚 Cross Country Checkup, he was a longstanding correspondent for CBC-TV鈥檚 flagship news show, The National.

Over the years, he developed a unique online resource, Reporting in Indigenous Communities, which inspired his latest work, a new textbook called Decolonizing Journalism: A Guide to Reporting in Indigenous Communities. McCue is also the author of The Shoe Boy: A Trapline Memoir, which recounts a season he spent in a hunting camp with a Cree family in northern Quebec as a teenager.

Stephan Schott

Schott鈥檚 research focuses on alternative energy and sustainable development in the Arctic, the economic impacts of mining on local communities and local business development, food security and the integration of traditional knowledge and science, behavioural experiments in common pool resource environments, energy strategies and carbon emission reduction programmes.

He believes that we need to act on a number of urgent issues, such as climate change, fish stock declines, food insecurity, and declining community well-being. His research closely involves end users such as communities, individual harvesters and local governments to come up with practical bottom-up solutions to pressing public policy issues.

Spencer has done extensive research on the “Sixties Scoop,” the mass removal of Indigenous children (First Nations, M茅tis, and Inuit) from their families and communities into the child welfare system between the late 1950s and 1980s.  He researches responses to sexual violence, specifically non-governmental and police responses to sexual violence. His areas of interest include criminal justice responses to sexual violence, sex offences and offenders, critical approaches to children and youth, conceptions of homelessness and micro and macro approaches to violence.

Miranda J. Brady

Brady is available to discuss issues related to motherhood, motherhood and media, motherhood and labour / domestic work, family vloggers, tradmoms and mothers in film. 

Brady鈥檚 work takes a critical/cultural approach and explores the construction of identity in the media and other cultural institutions. She has spoken on the rise of 鈥渕ominfluencers,鈥 entrepreneurial motherhood and issues related to media and motherhood.

Rebecca Bromwich
Professor, Department of Law and Legal Studies at 杏吧原创 University

Bromwich is available to speak on topics related to women under the law, solo parenting and single mothers, and specifically, women as mothers.  She has an anthology on mothers and law.

She has also discussed an intersectional approach to the inclusion of women in the workplace and in the private sphere of the home.

Bromwich is the former program director of the Graduate Diploma in Conflict Resolution. Bromwich has been a columnist for Lawyers Weekly and has authored and co-authored several books for students and legal system practitioners, including a new publication on corporate social responsibility.

Rachel Buxton

Asa a mother and scientist, Buxton is available to discuss the importance of connecting kids with nature for their well-being and to foster nature stewardship.

Buxton has also discussed how soothing nature sounds can reduce stress and benefit individual mental health, the relationship between biodiversity (birds/trees) and human health/wellbeing, urban conservation of birds, national biodiversity conservation, and how to conserve and care for biodiversity as individuals.

Buxton鈥檚 main research interests include soundscapes, seabird ecology, ecological restoration, and systematic conservation planning.

Couchoux is available to discuss the cultural expectations of motherhood and how they shape women鈥檚 relationship with money, including the financial impact of the mental load and being the primary caregiver.

Couchoux’s research explores the experience of the diverse stakeholders involved in audit and governance processes, including auditors, audit committee members, and regulators. Using qualitative methods, she analyzes how these individuals make sense of their role, adapt to the changing environment, and respond to the rules and regulatory requirements that govern their occupation.
