Email: DanArnold3@cunet.carleton.ca or Danarnold@pollara.com

A seasoned campaigner, Arnold oversaw the Trudeau Liberals鈥 research program during their 2015, 2019, and 2021 election victories. He moderated focus groups, led the nightly tracking, and used his seat projection model to map the path to government.

In between these campaigns, he served as Director of Research, Advertising, & Correspondence in the Prime Minister鈥檚 Office. Allyson Brady
Professor, Department of Biology, 杏吧原创 University

Email: AllysonBrady@cunet.carleton.ca

Brady鈥檚 main area of research is astrobiology. The moon missions may lead to the discovery of organics in an environment where we do not believe life existed. She is also interested in how the Artemis program may pave the way for sending humans to Mars.

Microorganisms are the backbone of ecosystems, driving biogeochemical cycling, and represent a wealth of unexplored biodiversity. Brady’s research in microbial ecology aims to understand the interaction of biology and the Earth, with an emphasis on microbial environments with relevance to biotechnology and astrobiology. Microbes are widely recognized as having the ability to remediate pollutants and have the potential to play a key role in addressing pressing environmental needs. Microbes also represent the earliest forms of life on Earth and may have once existed on other habitable planets. Identification of biosignatures, or unambiguous signs of life, is key to the study of early Earth and planetary missions.

Professor, Department of Psychology at 杏吧原创 University

EmailAndrea.Howard@carleton.ca

Howard studies well-being and health-related behaviours in adolescence and the transition to adulthood, with an emphasis on special challenges facing university students and young people with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. A fundamental assumption behind her work is that all young people have the capacity to thrive.

This has led her to question the validity of popular but negative stories about youth that appear in the media and are embraced by the public but aren鈥檛 clearly supported by empirical research (the 鈥渒ids these days鈥 fallacy). This includes myths about the pervasiveness of helicopter parenting, rampant mental illness, and harmful impacts of smartphones and social media.

Shannon鈥檚 research examines problematic social media use (PSMU) from a biopsychosocial perspective to understand whether it shares key features with other addictions. Her research investigates reward system functioning, inhibitory control and mental health outcomes associated with PSMU. Beyond identifying possible risk factors for PSMU, Shannon is interested in the broader public health implications of social media use. More recently, her research has explored how social media platform design and user behaviours influence mental health. Shannon is also passionate about science communication and public engagement. Through her Instagram platform, 杏吧原创 University Mindful Media Crew, she translates research findings into accessible, practical insights to help individuals better understand and navigate their social media use.
