• Settings > Cellular > Scroll down to the Cellular Data section
  Here, you’ll find out how much data your apps have used during the “current period.” FYI: The current period is not your billing cycle; it’s referring to your last reset. You can scroll down to the bottom to see the beginning date of your last reset. You should tap on “Reset Statistics” on the billing plan start date to keep tabs on your data usage.

Alternatively, a 3rd-party app like ‘s DataMan app can automatically inform you when you hit up to 4 preset percentages of your monthly data plan.

To configure DataMan: install app, launch, swipe screen right-to-left, Select Data Plan, enter monthly start date and data cap*. Done. There is no need to leave the DataMan app running.

*Tip: The monthly start date varies with each Data Plan. If your Data usage is paid for by ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´, your Data Plan starts on the 2nd of each month.

Potential sources of Excessive Data Usage 

Email, texting, and even web-browsing use low to moderate amounts of your Data Cap. Here are a few larger consumers of data:

• Streaming movies. Watching a streaming move (e.g. NetFlix, YouTube, Vimeo) can easily consume over an 1GB/hour — ensure you are on WiFi first!
• Video conferencing — Skype Video Conferencing uses more data than Skype Audio. Use Skype Audio unless you are on WiFi.
• Audio Streaming inadvertently left on. Apps like TuneIn let you stream Audio from the Internet and continue streaming in the background while you read your mail or browse the Internet. Ensure you turn them off when you are done. We had one instance where someone inadvertently streamed audio in the background for a month, exceeding their 6GB data cap!
• Online multi-player games — ensure you are on WiFi, unless you know that the data consumption for that specific game is low.
• Inadvertently thinking you’re on WiFi when you’re not — always look for the WiFi indicator on the upper-left hand corner of your iOS display. Or just keep cellular data set to OFF until you explicitly choose to use it. (See TipÌý²ú±ð±ô´Ç·É)

Tip: Or Just Disable (cellular) data until you need it!

• From the Home screen:
  • ¾±±Ê³ó´Ç²Ô±ð:ÌýSettings > Cellular > Cellular Data
    
  • ¾±±Ê²¹»å:ÌýSettings > Cellular Data
• Slide the toggle next to Cellular Data to off. This will disable all cellular data traffic until it’s enabled again.

Note re: SSD Drives: The Security Options (over-writing with zeros) will NOT be presented if the drive is an SSD (Solid State Drive). For SSDs, this is generally considered unnecessary, as well as excessively wearing of the life-cycle of an SSD drive.  If you desire, Apple’s FileVault drive encryption capability can be used to provide an extra level of comfort that your data will remain inaccessible, as explained by either of these two articles:

Memory aids when using an external Bluetooth keyboard:

The accents are generated holding the option key while pressing a specific character, followed by the letter to be accented. Here are some memory aids to help remember which specific character,Ìýto generate each accent:

accent grave: Option key + `, the actual “grave” accent, e.g. très
accent aigu: Option key + e, the only letter in french with this accent, e.g. élégant
accent circonflexe: Option key + i, e.g. fête
umlaut: Option key + u, e.g. Noël
cedilla: Option + c, the only letter in french with this accent, e.g. Ça

To add apps (or songs) to your iPad or iPhone, you need an iTunes account. Setting up an iTunes account, normally requires setting up a method of payment—e.g. a credit card or an iTunes gift card:

However you may wish to create a iTunes account, just so you can use the free 5GB of cloud backup that Apple provides iOS users. Or you may wish to create a 2nd iTunes account so you can from one of your iOS devices (e.g. iPhone, iPad) to a 2nd of your iOS devices—something you can’t do if they have the same iTunes account. Here’s how:

iOS 7 runs on the iPhone 4 and newer, as well as the iPad 2 and newer—but if you have an iPhone 4 or iPad 2 and are happy with iOS 6, you may wish to sit out the iOS 7 upgrade.
