He left a lasting international legacy on discourses on culture, race, identity and media that is particularly resonant at this moment in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building on the recent Stuart Hall day held at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University, the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University and the Faculty of Arts at the University of British Columbia engaged with Stuart Hall\u2019s legacy through a series of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfu.ca\/sca\/events\/details\/continuing-conversations-stuart-halls-legacy\">three events<\/a> that included: a public screening of John Akomfrah\u2019s The Stuart Hall Project and roundtable discussions and seminars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The panel, chaired by&nbsp;Dr. Handel Wright (Professor and Director, Centre for Culture, Identity &amp;&nbsp;Education, UBC), featured Dr. Daniel McNeil (Professor of History, Migration and Diaspora Studies, ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University),&nbsp;Dr. Laura Marks (Dena Wosk University Professor, Visual and Cultural&nbsp;Studies, SFU\/SCA),&nbsp;Dr. David Chariandy (Associate Professor of English, SFU),&nbsp;Dr. Adel Iskandar (Assistant Professor of Global Communication, SFU) and&nbsp;Dr. Alessandra Santos (Assistant Professor of Ibero-American Literatures and Cultures,&nbsp;UBC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stuart Hall was a Jamaican-born cultural theorist and sociologist and one of the founders of Cultural Studies and the &#8220;New Left Review&#8221; in Britain.
