{"id":10639,"date":"2015-06-16T10:33:05","date_gmt":"2015-06-16T14:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/math\/?page_id=10639"},"modified":"2024-10-25T09:35:40","modified_gmt":"2024-10-25T13:35:40","slug":"learning-assistance","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/math\/learning-assistance\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning Assistance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">The School of Mathematics and Statistics recognizes that transitioning from high school to university can be quite a leap. \u00a0Even students with high academic achievement in high school may find the programs at university immensely\u00a0challenging. \u00a0In order to support students in achieving their goals and succeeding academically, we have implemented the following resources:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><strong>Learning Assistance Coordinators<\/strong> &#8211; <span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'Georgia',serif;\">The Learning Assistance Coordinator position was created to further offer assistance to our students, teaching assistants, faculty, and our School as a whole. This position focuses on working in our Math and Stats Tutorial Centre to assist our honours and general level students, continue to coordinate the MS-LAP project, mentor our students, provide problem solving workshops, and to help coordinate the Math Matters programs. Please feel free to contact our LAC (<\/span><a href=\"&#109;&#x61;&#x69;&#108;&#x74;&#x6f;:&#x6b;&#x79;l&#101;&#x2e;h&#97;&#x72;v&#101;&#x79;&#64;&#99;&#x61;r&#108;&#x65;&#x74;&#111;&#x6e;&#x2e;&#99;&#x61;\">&#x6b;&#x79;&#x6c;&#x65;&#x2e;&#x68;&#x61;&#x72;&#x76;&#x65;&#x79;&#x40;&#x63;&#x61;&#x72;&#x6c;&#x65;&#x74;&#x6f;&#x6e;&#x2e;&#x63;&#x61;<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'Georgia',serif;\">) if you have any questions, need some assistance with your course material, or preparing for tests and exams. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/math\/wp-content\/uploads\/Math-Matters-for-Math-Honours-website-blurb-003.docx\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Math Matters for Math Honours Students<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Are you a first year Math Honours student? Start your degree off on the right foot by attending Math Matters for Math Honours students. During the one-week long program, you will review and learn the skills and concepts you need to be successful in your program. To learn about this program contact the Science Student Success Centre, or <a href=\"&#109;&#x61;i&#108;&#x74;o&#58;&#x6b;y&#x6c;&#x65;&#46;&#x68;a&#114;&#x76;e&#121;&#x40;c&#x61;&#x72;&#108;&#x65;&#x74;&#111;&#x6e;&#46;&#99;&#x61;\">&#107;&#x79;&#x6c;&#101;&#x2e;&#x68;a&#x72;&#x76;e&#121;&#x40;c&#97;&#x72;l&#101;&#x74;o&#110;&#x2e;c&#97;<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/math\/math-learning-assistance-program\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MS-LAP<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">Mathematics and Statistics Learning Assistance Program (MS-LAP) utilizes new technologies to offer first year students additional resources and study aides developed by trained program facilitators and our program coordinator.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/math\/wp-content\/uploads\/MTC-Schedule-Fall-2022-3.pdf\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Math Tutorial Centre<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CLOSED reading week fall, winter and summer term.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">At the Math Tutorial Centre (MTC), Our Learning Assistance Coordinators and Teaching Assistants are available to help Monday through Friday. They are well qualified to answer questions, and are there to help.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/math\/mentors\/\">Mathematics &amp; Statistics Mentors (Faculty Members)<\/a><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">If further assistance is required, highly qualified tutors are available for one-on-one tutoring sessions. They can provide individual support for you at your convenience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt; orphans: auto; text-align: start; widows: 1; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sssc.carleton.ca\/\">Science Student Success Centre<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The SSSC was created specifically to address the needs of students in the Faculty of Science. The <a href=\"http:\/\/sssc.carleton.ca\/resources\/student-support\">Faculty of Science Student Resources\u00a0<\/a>offer one-on-one mentoring sessions, information sessions on career and research exploration, workshops on lab reports and exam preparation, resources for academic success, and much more!<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt; orphans: auto; text-align: start; widows: 1; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\"><strong>Come and see us in the Mathematics and Statistics main office, 4302 Herzberg Laboratories for information on any of these learning assistance resources.
