Volunteer Tour Guides & Quiz Masters Needed for Day of the Dead

A group of 50 high school students will be visiting Ottawa from Mexico City in late October. As part of this trip, they will be assembling a commemorative altar at �Ӱ�ԭ�� to celebrate Day of the Dead. We are looking for volunteers to help out with two different aspects of the event.

(1) Campus Tour (23 October, 2025)

We are looking for a team of 5 modern language students to create and lead a campus tour for the visitors. Here’s how it’ll work.

The Mexican students and their teacher will be at �Ӱ�ԭ�� on October 22-23. On the 22nd they will put together the altar which they designed and built in Mexico. Then, the following day (October 23), they will return to campus for:

A campus tour (9:30 – 11:30)
Lunch
A soft launch of the altar

This is where you come in! We are looking for a team of �Ӱ�ԭ�� students to plan, prepare, and lead a campus tour (either in one big group or in separate smaller groups). The timing is a bit unfortunate as it will happen during Fall Break which means, fewer �Ӱ�ԭ�� students will be on campus. But if you’re around and interested, we’d love to hear from you.

But wait…do I need to speak Spanish.

No, don’t worry. The visiting students are studying English and you can give the tour in English. BUT, if you are learning Spanish and are looking for a bit of a challenge, this would be a great opportunity to try your language out with a group of native speakers!

A “soft launch” of the altar will occur after lunch with the official launch scheduled for the following week when �Ӱ�ԭ�� students have returned from Fall Break.

(2) Day of the Dead Trivia Game (30 October, 2025)

Speaking of the official launch, we are also looking for modern languages volunteers to create and run a Day of the Dead Trivia Event as part of the official launch event. This trivia game will be part of a schedule featuring face painting, tasting, games, and more.
