This research is a collaboration between <a href=\"https:\/\/refugeesseat.org\/\">R-SEAT<\/a> (Refugees Seeking Equal Access at the Table) and <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/lerrn\/\">LERRN<\/a> (the Local Engagement Refugee Research Network), with the active cooperation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.refugee-economies.org\/our-work-21-24\/refugee-led-research-hub\">RLRH<\/a> (Refugee-led Research Hub) in East Africa. The project builds on our recent work on the impact of refugee-led organizations in <a href=\"https:\/\/refugeeledresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Refugee-Led-Organisations-in-East-Africa-Executive-Summary-report.pdf\">East Africa<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/lerrn\/wp-content\/uploads\/Refugee-Communities-Mobilising-in-the-Middle-East-EXECUTIVE-SUMMARY.pdf\">Middle East<\/a>. It seeks to inform research, policy and practice on the conditions that enable or constrain refugees from demonstrating leadership in navigating local, national and regional power structures to influence the development and implementation of policy and programmes intended to affect the daily lives of refugees. This <strong>18-month project<\/strong> will emphasize the active and equal participation of researchers with lived experience of displacement in developing the research methodology, conducting research, producing knowledge, and mobilizing knowledge to influence research, policy and practice.<\/p>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-position\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-position\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Position<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-position\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>We are now seeking applications for the <strong>East Africa Research Lead<\/strong> for this project. Working closely with project members in other regions and with the support of LERRN, R-SEAT and RLRH, the East Africa Research Lead will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead on the implementation of the research project in the East Africa region;<\/li>\n<li>Participate in a series of virtual workshops to co-design the research project with other project partners;<\/li>\n<li>Recruit, train and supervise research assistants working on this project;<\/li>\n<li>Undertake fieldwork within the region;<\/li>\n<li>Organize and lead project meetings in the region;<\/li>\n<li>Participate in global project meetings;<\/li>\n<li>Establish and maintain communication with project partners and stakeholders;<\/li>\n<li>Lead on the preparation of research results and outputs from the East Africa region;<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to the comparative analysis of results from other regions;<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to the preparation of global research results;<\/li>\n<li>Lead on the administration of the project in East Africa according to the terms and conditions of the grant, and,<\/li>\n<li>Provide financial and other reporting inputs as required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The position will be implemented as a Postdoctoral Research Scholarship with the Gerda Henkel Foundation at the rate of \u20ac2300 a month for 18 months. The position is expected to begin on 1 September 2023 and conclude on 28 February 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The project benefits from additional resources to support the hiring of Research Assistants and for travel and dissemination costs.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-requirements\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-requirements\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Requirements<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-requirements\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate for this position will have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A completed PhD (or equivalent) in a field closely related to refugee and forced migration studies;<\/li>\n<li>A research record in issues relating to refugee participation, refugee leadership, refugee policy, and\/or refugee responses in the East Africa region;<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated knowledge of examples of refugee leadership in the East Africa region;<\/li>\n<li>Experience in the training and\/or mentorship of research assistants; and<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated experience managing multi-sited research projects in the East Africa region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Given the nature of the project, a very strong preference will be given to candidates with lived experience of forced migration.<\/h4>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<h3>How to Apply:<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Applicants must submit the following by e-mail as a single document to <a href=\"ma&#105;&#108;&#116;&#x6f;&#x3a;&#x4a;&#x61;me&#115;&#46;&#77;&#x69;&#x6c;&#x6e;&#x65;r&#64;&#99;&#97;&#114;&#x6c;&#x65;&#x74;&#x6f;n&#46;&#99;&#97;?subject=East%20Africa%20Research%20Lead%20application\">&#74;&#x61;&#x6d;&#101;&#x73;&#x2e;M&#x69;&#x6c;n&#101;&#x72;&#64;&#99;&#x61;r&#108;&#x65;t&#111;&#x6e;&#46;&#99;&#x61;<\/a> by 9am EST on Monday, <strong>24 April 2023<\/strong> with the subject line \u201cEast Africa Research Lead application\u201d:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cover letter outlining how the candidate has demonstrated the above requirements, including if the candidate has lived experience of forced migration (maximum 2 pages)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">CV (maximum 5 pages)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Writing sample<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Names of three references to be contacted if the candidate is selected to proceed at Stage 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Stage 1<\/strong>: Candidates who are short-listed will be informed by 8 May 2023.
