Professor Dale Spencer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Professor Dale Spencer<\/a> has been named the 2021 Faculty of Public Affairs Research Excellence Chair<\/a>. Prof. Spencer\u2019s research on violence, victimization, the Sixties Scoop, and settler-colonial projects, and digital worlds and the young people who engage with them, is both innovative and responsive to the important and often under-examined aspects of our history, daily life, and future possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Spencer was recently awarded a $173,717 five-year SSHRC Insight Grant<\/a> for his research project that focuses on the RCMP and municipal police officers managing the national sex offender registry to look at how the registry is used in Canada. He is currently looking at policies involved in public health measures that limit social contact and the links between recreational activities and risk tolerance during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDale is one of Canada\u2019s most prolific early career interdisciplinary social scientists,\u201d says FPA Dean Brenda O\u2019Neill. \u201cWe are proud that the FPA Research Excellence Chair will help to increase our understanding of violence and victimization in many areas including corrections, elderly care and in forced adoption such as the Sixties Scoop.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mary Francoli, Associate Dean and Director of Arthur Kroeger College, says, \u201cDale has an impressive record of accomplishment in securing diverse research funding in support of his research, a strong publication record, and an innovative, ambitious research program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
