The Child Rights Academic Network (CRAN)

CRAN is an international network of children’s rights professionals dedicated to improving the world for children and young people through work in education, policy, advocacy, programming and practice. Since its inception in 2008, with funding from the Muttart Family Foundation, CRAN has been a powerhouse network of professionals who use research to drive policy and practice for sustainable and long-lasting change. The network meets annually in Ottawa, Canada. One of the primary features of CRAN is its relationship with the Shaking the Movers National Workshop Series. The CRAN and STM networks work collaboratively to devise ways to take action on issues that matter to children and youth that are informed by children’s and young people’s views.

Message to the G7 Kananaskis, Alberta: The 2025 CRAN–STM collaboration culminated in the creation of a powerful communiqué, shaped by insights from the Shaking the Movers reports and dynamic discussions at CRAN. This document, capturing the perspectives and priorities of children and young people, served as the foundation for another formal letter sent to the G7 by Senator Margo Greenwood’s office. To ensure accessibility and impact, a group of young people—including students from King’s College London, the University of Western Ontario, and former Shaking the Movers participants—translated the communiqué into youth-friendly language. View the CRAN communiqué and youth-friendly language version here.
