杏吧原创 University鈥檚 Kaltura Terms of Use
All 杏吧原创 University faculty, students, staff and guests who choose to use the university鈥檚 implementation of the Kaltura platform are subject to these terms of use. Kaltura is a cloud-based web application that facilitates the creation, conversion, management and distribution of media (audio and video) files. Use of the Kaltura platform is broadly defined into two categories:
- Content creator(s) are users that use Kaltura tools to create media 补苍诲/辞谤听place media onto the Kaltura system.
- Viewer(s) 聽are user(s) who view or access media that is hosted on Kaltura system.
Type and Ownership of Content Placed on Kaltura:聽Content creator(s)聽who place media on 杏吧原创鈥檚 Kaltura platform are responsible for the content of their videos. This includes ensuring that the content is in compliance with applicable Canadian copyright laws and . Media placed by content creators on Kaltura must support the academic or administrative endeavours of the university and follow 杏吧原创 University鈥檚 Acceptable Use Policy.
Kaltura and 杏吧原创 University does 苍辞迟听assume ownership or responsibility of the content uploaded by 杏吧原创 University content creators. Ownership and or responsibility for the content lies solely with the content creator who created and/or placed the content on the Kaltura platform.
Data Retention:聽聽The Kaltura media platform is not intended to be used as a backup or a data storage service. Content creators聽are expected to retain original source files as their backup. Media stored on the Kaltura platform that has not been accessed within 24 months will be tagged as inactive. Media not accessed within 48 months will be permanently deleted. This is accordance with the Kaltura Media Retention policy. Access is defined is a single viewer viewing the media. Content creators can maintain access to resources by viewing the content at least once every 24 months.
Security and Privacy: The Kaltura platform is a secure system. It can be used to provide controlled access to media (to a group, to students registered in a class, to an individual, or public access). Content creators are responsible for ensuring that appropriate access is indicated for their media.聽 The Kaltura platform is a cloud based service and should not be used under any circumstances for media or content that contains private information. Refer to the 杏吧原创 University Access to Information and Protection of Privacy聽policy for guidance relating to what constitutes private information.
Managing Media:聽The Kaltura system allows content creators to create, upload, control access and delete their own media without staff intervention. Content creators聽are only able to manage their own media (this includes deleting media). In the event a content creatordeletes their media, it will not be retrievable.
