  {"id":2377,"date":"2023-09-13T11:19:34","date_gmt":"2023-09-13T15:19:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/its\/help-centre\/?page_id=2377"},"modified":"2024-05-16T10:09:34","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T14:09:34","slug":"editing-not-allowed-on-m365-applications-on-macs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/its\/help-centre\/editing-not-allowed-on-m365-applications-on-macs\/","title":{"rendered":"Editing Not Allowed on M365 Applications on Mac&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a common issue for M365 applications on Mac\u2019s, Office 365 local applications such as Word are, at times, unable to detect that they are activated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the cause \u201cEditing Not Allowed\u201d on Office Applications on Mac<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The problem lies with the software\u2019s ability to detect correct licenses, which stops users from editing their documents.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Fix<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Option 1:<\/p>\n<p>Back end files have not been fully removed.<\/p>\n<p>On a Mac to <strong>fully uninstall and remove back end files<\/strong> you need to download a tool from the link below:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office\/how-to-remove-office-license-files-on-a-mac-b032c0f6-a431-4dad-83a9-6b727c03b193\">How to remove Office license files on a Mac (microsoft.com)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the tool is done,\u00a0<strong>Download from App store after and sign in.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Option 2:<\/p>\n<p>If the problem persists, uninstall and re-install M365<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Finder and click on Applications<\/li>\n<li>Press the <strong>Command\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.content.office.net\/en-us\/media\/314f2d55-e8b8-4417-9d4b-b3908c1ebd0c.gif\" alt=\"COMMAND\" \/><\/strong>\u00a0key click to <strong>select all<\/strong> of the Office applications like Word, Outlook for Mac applications<\/li>\n<li>Press <strong>Ctrl <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>click<\/strong>\u00a0the selected applications.
