This is a common issue for M365 applications on Mac\u2019s, Office 365 local applications such as Word are, at times, unable to detect that they are activated.<\/p>\n

What is the cause \u201cEditing Not Allowed\u201d on Office Applications on Mac<\/strong><\/p>\n

The problem lies with the software\u2019s ability to detect correct licenses, which stops users from editing their documents.<\/p>\n

The Fix<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Option 1:<\/p>\n

Back end files have not been fully removed.<\/p>\n

On a Mac to fully uninstall and remove back end files<\/strong> you need to download a tool from the link below:<\/p>\n

How to remove Office license files on a Mac (microsoft.com)<\/a><\/p>\n

Once the tool is done,\u00a0Download from App store after and sign in.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Option 2:<\/p>\n

If the problem persists, uninstall and re-install M365<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Open Finder and click on Applications<\/li>\n
  2. Press the Command\u00a0\"COMMAND\"<\/strong>\u00a0key click to select all<\/strong> of the Office applications like Word, Outlook for Mac applications<\/li>\n
  3. Press Ctrl <\/strong>and\u00a0click<\/strong>\u00a0the selected applications. Then click\u00a0Move to Trash<\/b>\u00a0from the options window<\/li>\n
  4. Log into the M365 portal http:\/\/portal.office.com<\/a>, and reinstall M365<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Option 3:<\/p>\n

    Have the user log out and back into their M365 account so the system recognizes the license<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. User will want to close all M365 applications (locally installed and web version).<\/li>\n
    2. Log out of their M365 account using this link: http:\/\/portal.office.com<\/a><\/li>\n
    3. On the top right they should either see their initials or a profile picture, click on that and choose the sign out <\/em>option on the menu<\/li>\n
    4. Open the Library folder<\/strong> (*If using a more recent OS* Go to Finder and at the Go menu, press option key and click on Library) and then open Group Containers\u00a0<\/strong>and move these files to Trash<\/strong> if they are present\n

      3. UBF8T346G9.OfficeOsfWebHost<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
      4. They can now use the same portal link<\/a> to sign back into the M365 account and launch the Office applications without issue (hopefully).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
