The Outlook Junk Email Filter doesn\u2019t stop delivery of junk email messages, but does the next best thing\u2014it moves suspected spam to the\u00a0<b>Junk Email<\/b>\u00a0folder.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #e1e0e2; padding: 20px;\">\n<p><b>Tips:<\/b>\u00a0It&#8217;s a good idea to regularly review messages in the\u00a0<b>Junk Email<\/b>\u00a0folder to check for legitimate messages that were incorrectly classified as junk. If you find a message that isn\u2019t junk, drag it back to the\u00a0<b>Inbox<\/b>\u00a0or any folder. You can also mark the item as not junk by doing the following:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ocpAlertSectionListContainer\">\n<li>Click\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Home<\/b>\u00a0&gt; <b>Report<\/b>&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Not Junk<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>You can block messages from specific email addresses or domains from reaching your inbox. When you add an email address or domain to your blocked senders list, Outlook on the web automatically moves messages from that sender to the Junk Email folder.<\/p>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-block-senders-from-sending-you-email\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-block-senders-from-sending-you-email\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Block senders from sending you email<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-block-senders-from-sending-you-email\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re receiving unwanted email, you can block the email addresses and domains you don&#8217;t want to receive messages from. Add any email address or domain to your blocked senders list to move these messages directly to your Junk Email folder.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ocpAlert\">\n<p class=\"ocpAlertSection\"><b class=\"ocpNote\">Note:\u00a0<\/b>Junk email is retained for 30 days before it is automatically deleted and is not recoverable. Messages from addresses or domains on the safe senders list won&#8217;t get moved to your Junk Email folder.<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Sign into you 杏吧原创 email via the web\u00a0 (<a href=\"https:\/\/outlook.office.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Students\u00a0\u00a0<\/a>\/\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/exchange.carleton.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Staff\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0)<\/li>\n<li>At the top of the page, select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Settings<\/b><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.content.office.net\/en-us\/media\/70126b1d-feb8-4dc4-afc5-a93751d4e75e.png\" alt=\"Settings\" \/>&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">View all Outlook settings<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Mail<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Junk email<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Under\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Safe senders<\/b>, enter the email address or domain you want to add, and select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Add<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Save<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<p><a name=\"__toc301200572\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>By default, the Junk Email Filter is turned on and the protection level is set to\u00a0<b>No Automatic Filtering<\/b>. You can make the filter more aggressive by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/change-the-level-of-protection-in-the-junk-email-filter-e89c12d8-9d61-4320-8c57-d982c8d52f6b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">changing the level of protection<\/a>\u00a0that it provides. The Junk Email Filter evaluates each incoming message based on several factors. These can include the time when the message was sent and the content of the message.<\/p>\n<p>To change the options for the Junk Email Filter in Outlook do the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Home<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Junk<\/b>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<b class=\"ocpUI\">Junk Email Options<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"background-color: #e1e0e2; padding: 20px;\">\n<p><b>Mac Outlook users <\/b>do not have access to the Junk Mail Preferences on Exchange email, Junk mail filtering is handled via webmail.\u00a0 View above &#8220;<em><strong>Stop messages from Specific people going to Junk<\/strong><\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"find-and-release-quarantined-messages-as-a-user-in-eop\">Quarantined Messages<\/h2>\n<p>As a user, you can view, release, and delete quarantined messages where you are a recipient, when the message was quarantined as spam or bulk email.<br \/>\nHowever, messages that were quarantined for known phishing attempts, malware, or by mail flow rules are only available to admins.\u00a0 End users will not be able to view or release these emails and will have to contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/its\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Service Desk<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-view-your-quarantined-messages\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-view-your-quarantined-messages\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">View your quarantined messages<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-view-your-quarantined-messages\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log into\u00a0 the <a href=\"https:\/\/security.microsoft.com\/quarantine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Security and Compliance Center<\/a> with your &#x66;&#x69;&#114;s&#x74;&#x6c;&#x61;&#115;t&#x6e;&#x61;&#x6d;&#101;&#64;&#x63;&#x75;&#x6e;&#101;t&#x2e;&#x63;&#x61;&#114;l&#x65;&#x74;&#x6f;&#110;&#46;&#x63;&#x61; address.<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>Threat Management<\/strong>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<strong>Review<\/strong>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<strong>Quarantine<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Use\u00a0<strong>Sort results by <\/strong>menu<strong>, <\/strong>use one of the following values:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sender email address<\/strong>: A single sender&#8217;s email address.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recipient email address<\/strong>: A single recipient&#8217;s email address.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Subject<\/strong>: Use the entire subject of the message. The search is not case-sensitive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>After you&#8217;ve entered the search criteria, click\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/microsoft-365\/media\/scc-quarantine-refresh.png?view=o365-worldwide\" alt=\"Refresh button\" data-linktype=\"relative-path\" \/>\u00a0<strong>Refresh<\/strong>\u00a0to filter the results.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<p class=\"heading-anchor\"><div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-take-action-on-quarantined-email\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-take-action-on-quarantined-email\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Take action on quarantined email<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-take-action-on-quarantined-email\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>After you select a message, you have options for what to do with the messages in the\u00a0<strong>Details<\/strong>\u00a0flyout pane:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Release message<\/strong>: In the flyout pane that appears, choose whether to\u00a0<strong>Report messages to Microsoft for analysis<\/strong>. This is selected by default, and reports the erroneously quarantined message to Microsoft as a false positive.When you&#8217;re finished, click\u00a0<strong>Release messages<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>View message header<\/strong>: Choose this link to see the message header text. To analyze the header fields and values in depth, copy the message header text to your clipboard, and then choose\u00a0<strong>Microsoft Message Header Analyzer<\/strong>\u00a0to go to the Remote Connectivity Analyzer (right-click and choose\u00a0<strong>Open in a new tab<\/strong>\u00a0if you don&#8217;t want to leave Microsoft 365 to complete this task). Paste the message header onto the page in the Message Header Analyzer section, and choose\u00a0<strong>Analyze headers<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<li><strong>Preview message<\/strong>: In the flyout pane that appears, choose one of the following options:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Source view<\/strong>: Shows the HTML version of the message body with all links disabled.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Text view<\/strong>: Shows the message body in plain text.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Remove from quarantine<\/strong>: After you click\u00a0<strong>Yes<\/strong>\u00a0in the warning that appears, the message is immediately deleted.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Block Sender<\/strong>: Add the sender to the Blocked Senders list on your mailbox.
