To map your personal and departmental network drive from you personal laptop or home machine, you must first be connected via the VPN.  You can find the  VPN client here.

Presently we are reconfiguring the Map CUNET Drives executable, this will be available soon.  Until then you can manually map your drives following this instructions.

Windows 10

Personal Drives (P:\ drive)

  1. Open File Explorer and select This PC.
  2. Click  the Map network drive button in the ribbon menu at the top, then select “Map network drive.” (This is under the Computer tab, which should open automatically when you go to This PC, as above).  Select the drive letter from the drop down menu (p:).
  3. In the Folder address box, enter the folder path to your own network area in the following format:
    \\cunas.cunet.carleton.ca\homedirs$\x\xxxxx
Note: The single x is to be replaced with your first initial, ie: for jane Doe it would be J and the second set of x’s are to be replaced by your username ie: JaneDoe
  4. For the username enter yourusername@cunet where yourusername is your normal CUNET username ie: joeblogs@cunet.
  5. Click Finish.

Your network drive will be displayed on the screen.

Remember to disconnect from the VPN once you have finished.  To do this, click the black VPN icon along the top menu bar and select ‘Disconnect VPN’.

Departmental Drives (W:\ drive)

  1. Open File Explorer and select This PC.
  2. Click  the Map network drive button in the ribbon menu at the top, then select “Map network drive.” (This is under the Computer tab, which should open automatically when you go to This PC, as above).  Select the drive letter from the drop down menu (w:).
  3. In the Folder address box, enter the folder path to your own network area (W:)  in the following format:
    \\cunas.cunet.carleton.ca\deptFolderShare$\
    (Example:  \\cunas.cunet.carleton.ca\ITS$)
  4. For the username enter yourusername@cunet where yourusername is your normal CUNET username ie: joeblogs@cunet
  5. Click Finish.

Your network drive will be displayed on the screen.

V:\ Drive

  1. Open File Explorer and select This PC.
  2. Click  the Map network drive button in the ribbon menu at the top, then select “Map network drive.” (This is under the Computer tab, which should open automatically when you go to This PC, as above).  Select the drive letter from the drop down menu (V:).
  3. In the Folder address box, enter the folder path in the following format:
    \\cunas.cunet.carleton.ca\deptfolders$
  4. For the username enter yourusername@cunet where yourusername is your normal CUNET username ie: joeblogs@cunet
  5. Click Finish.

Some staff have other shared folders they need to access from their V: drive and in this case the mapping would be \\cunet.carleton.ca\allfolders$  (don’t use cunas in the string)

Troubleshooting (Windows 11)

An issue exists affecting users that are running Windows 10 version 2004 and Windows 11 machines (*not* CUNET domain joined).

If you are unable to reliably map a network drive try the following steps:

  1. Open the Windows PowerShell App as an administrator.
  2. Copy and paste the following commandlet:
    Set-ItemProperty -Path “HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters” MaxSMB2Dialect -Type DWORD -value 0x00000300 -Force
  3. Press Enter. If there is an error, verify that you’ve opened PowerShell as an administrator and try again.
  4. Restart your computer and re-map the drive if necessary.
