A\u00a0Shared Mailbox<\/strong>\u00a0is a mailbox to which\u00a0multiple<\/strong>\u00a0users have access and from which, multiple users can send\/receive messages. It can serve as a common repository for\u00a0a departmental\u00a0email address. \u00a0It can also contain folders and sub-folders, which everyone with access to the Shared Mailbox can save to or read.<\/p>\n Shared\u00a0Mailboxes<\/b>\u00a0are created\u00a0on request by\u00a0the\u00a0ITS Service Desk<\/a>. Once created, see the User Guides below to\u00a0Access the Shared Mailbox from Outlook on a PC or Mac.<\/p>\n Note 1.<\/b>\u00a0All folders or sub-folders created within\u00a0a Shared Mailbox share\u00a0the\u00a0same<\/strong>\u00a0access permissionsas the\u00a0Shared Mailbox \u2014 you cannot have different access permissions for a particular sub-folder with a Shared Mailbox.<\/p>\n A\u00a0Public Folder<\/strong>\u00a0is a\u00a0deprecated<\/strong>\u00a0service that Microsoft is phasing out in favour of\u00a0Shared Mailboxes.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Like Shared Mailboxes, Public Folders also allow multiple users to save to or read from a common folder in Outlook. \u00a0By default however, Public Folders have no associated email address, although\u00a0one can be assigned to enable the resulting\u00a0Mail-enabled Public Folder<\/em>\u00a0to receive email messages.<\/p>\n Note 2:<\/b>\u00a0ITS is\u00a0no longer<\/strong>\u00a0creating\u00a0new<\/strong>\u00a0Public Folders; nor mail-enabling, existing Public Folders. Instead, you may request a Shared Mailbox.<\/p>\n Note 3:<\/b>\u00a0The existing Public Folder hierarchy is visible to every mail user at 杏吧原创 \u2014 not the contents of the Public Folders of course, but the\u00a0names<\/strong>\u00a0of every Public Folder.
