Dr. Roshan Arah Jahangeer (she/her/elle/li) completed a PhD in Political Science from York University in 2022 and is a Contract Faculty in the School of Gender, Sexuality & Women鈥檚 Studies at York University. She was the inaugural Postdoctoral Fellow in Islamophobia in Health Professions Education at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, from 2022- 2023. Her doctoral research explores the transnational circulation of anti-veiling laws between France and Qu茅bec and their impacts on Muslim women in the contexts of secularism, feminism, and Islamophobia. Her current research, 鈥淢igrating for Religious Freedom? Studying the Migration Experiences of French and Qu茅b茅cois Muslim Women in Canada,鈥 explores the 鈥hijra鈥 (migration) of Muslim women away from France and Quebec to other parts of Canada.
Dr. Jahangeer鈥檚 work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and edited collections, such as, the (2020), (2022), and (2014). She has also written op-eds for the and . She has worked with community organizations such as the Canadian Council for Muslim Women, and was previously a Research Director and Board Member at the Tessellate Institute, an independent, non-profit research institute that explores and documents the lived experiences of Muslims in Canada.
