Abbas is a second-year Ph.D. candidate at ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University, where he is developing eco-friendly and cost-effective filtration technologies to capture micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) in water systems. His groundbreaking project integrates cutting-edge chemistry and engineering principles with machine learning and AI to design advanced functionalized media that achieve unparalleled efficiency in capturing particles smaller than 5 mm.

Driven by a passion for sustainable solutions, Abbas has consistently broken new ground in water treatment innovations. At Memorial University, he developed super-hydrophobic and super-oleophilic membranes for oil-water separation, earning his team the prestigious Terranova Young Innovator Award in 2019. This milestone solidified his reputation for turning complex challenges into practical, scalable solutions.

Now, through the Hatch program, Abbas is transforming his laboratory research into market-ready commercial products. By forging strategic partnerships, attracting investment, and accelerating product development, he is on a mission to revolutionize the water filtration industry. His ultimate goal is to provide safer, cleaner drinking water to communities worldwide while tackling the escalating global crisis of plastic pollution.
