This year’s lecture will be held Tuesday, November 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Residence Commons Conference Room following a reception which begins at 6:15 in the same location.. Our distinguished lecturer will be Dr. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi discussing “India in the 21st Century: Developing a Knowledge-Based Economy”.

326113-dinesh-singhProfessor Dinesh Singh holds a Ph.D from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London, England. He has published numerous research papers in international and national journals and his award-winning research has been cited in numerous books and articles. His activities have received recognition for their quality and effectiveness in education and research. Dr. Singh is also the Director of the Mathematical Sciences Foundation, Delhi and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mathematics, University of Houston, Texas.

Dr. Singh is a member of many committees of the Government of India and of numerous international research and academic agencies. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet, Government of India, the Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research, and the Steering Committees on Science & Technology and Higher & Technical Education, Planning Commission, Government of India. He is a member of the Governing Body of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and serves on the boards/executive councils of many other universities, institutions and professional bodies. He is also a Member of the Subject Expert Committee on Mathematical Sciences under the FIST Program and Vice President of the Governing Body of Delhi’s Institute of Human Behaviors and Allied Sciences.

She is widely recognized for her role in shaping the retail banking sector in India and for her leadership of the ICICI Group, as well as her contributions to various forums in India and globally. Ms. Kochhar is also a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade & Industry and the Board of Trade. She is also a member of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, National Institute of Securities Market, and International Monetary Conference. She was co-Chair of the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in 2011. Ms. Kochhar was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honours, in 2011.

He has been a key figure in India’s economic reforms from the mid 1980’s onwards. Prior to his appointment to the Planning Commission, Dr. Ahluwalia was the first Director of the Independent Evaluation Office at the International Monetary Fund. In 1979 Dr. Ahluwalia joined the Government of India and has held senior positions within the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce. In 2011 he was conferred the prestigious ‘Padma Vibhushan’ by the President of India for his outstanding contribution to economic policy and public service. Dr. Ahluwalia earned his B.A. (Hons) degree in New Delhi and his M.A. and M.Phil Degrees from Oxford University.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the 11th president of India, will deliver a presentation entitled “Birth of enlightened society. Kalam became the 11th president of India on July 25, 2002. He left office after five eventful years. His goal is the transformation of India into a developed nation by 2020 by focusing on the constructive networking and excellent human resources needed for an economically developed, prosperous and peaceful society. Kalam became an academic in November 2001 as a professor of technology and societal transformation at Anna University, Chennai. During this time, he took up the mission to ignite the young minds for national development by meeting with students across India.

During the last decade, Kalam has addressed and inspired more than five million youth. He is passionate about developing rural prosperity through Providing Urban Amenities to Rural Areas (PURA), in which science and technology play a key role. Based on his diverse experience, he has been propagating the concept of the World Knowledge Platform through which the core competencies of organizations and nations can be synergized to innovate and create solutions and products for the challenges of the 21st century. In his literary pursuits, Kalam has authored a number of books, many of which are now household names in India and among Indian nationals living abroad such as : Unleashing the Power Within India, You Are Born To Blossom: Take My Journey Beyond, and A Manifesto for Change : A Sequel to India 2020.
