Approaching its 50th anniversary, SUS continues to gather the most established and engaged researchers in the field, while inspiring the next generation of committed scholars. Next year’s conference will be hosted in Oregon.

Extended reality (XR) media offer new ways to tell stories that build on the audience鈥檚 local environment and embodied sense of place. In this workshop, we will build XR experiences using the StoryTrek platform, which allows users to easily blend digital media with real-world locations to create immersive and interactive sites of experiential learning. You will learn to design and build multimedia, site-specific stories, games and exhibits for mobile devices, with a focus on spatial and environmental storytelling.

While there was too much to summarize, it’s clear that we can’t continue to pretend that AI isn’t changing our research, our teaching, the nature of work, and the very mission of the University.

Of course, students still need to learn to write and think critically, but those skills have always adapted to the media through which we think and write. Writing with a fountain pen is different than composing with a word processor, and critique takes different forms in oral discourse, written texts, and online forums.

Extended Reality聽(XR)聽refers to the diverse set of technologies used to create immersive learning experiences and spaces by blending virtual and real elements. These experiences range from fully immersive computer-generated environments to real-world spaces that integrate digital content. XR research demonstrates that these technologies are effective in supporting skill development, empathy, and learning across a range of disciplines. The TLS eXperiential Learning Hub launches at 杏吧原创 this fall to support immersive learning and extended reality (XR) across campus.

A philosophically nuanced critique of biopower, The Living from the Dead is a meditation on life, death, power, language, and control in the twenty-first century. Arguing that biopower can be fully exposed only through an analysis of those whom society has 鈥渓et die,鈥� Stuart J. Murray employs a series of transdisciplinary case studies to uncover the structural and rhetorical conditions through which biopower works. These case studies include the concept of 鈥渟acrifice鈥� in the 鈥渨ar鈥� against COVID-19, where emergent cultures of pandemic 鈥渞esistance鈥� are explored alongside suicide bombings and military suicides; the California mass hunger strikes of 2013; legal cases involving 鈥減reventable鈥� and 鈥渦ntimely鈥� childhood deaths, exposing the irreconcilable claims of anti-vaxxers and Indigenous peoples; and the videorecording of the death of a disabled Black man. Murray demonstrates that active resistance to biopower inevitably reproduces tropes of 鈥渕aking live鈥� and 鈥渓etting die.鈥�
