July 17, 2019 \u2013 Introduction to cuPortfolio (for Instructors)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Join the Educational Development Centre (EDC) on Wednesday, July 17 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for your introduction to ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´\u2019s electronic portfolio technology, cuPortfolio. This session will provide an overview of ePortfolios, review how they can be used to deepen and enrich learning and assessment, and provide a hands-on introduction to cuPortfolio. During the hands-on portion of the session, you\u2019ll learn the basics of cuPortfolio, such as how to create a portfolio, how to design a portfolio template, and how to use the features available in the tool to help assess ePortfolios. Please register in advance here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Announcements<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

New Fall 2019 JOUR course open to non-Journalism majors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The School of Journalism and Communication’s Journalism program is running a seminar course called JOUR 3400 (Selected Topics in Journalism): Gender, Identity and Inequality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is open to non-journalism students in the fall term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as being informative and eye-opening, it will fulfill 0.5 credit of the B.A. Breadth Requirement. More details can be found on the attached flyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Call For Papers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The American Society for Environmental History<\/a> will hold its 2020 annual meeting in Ottawa, 25-29 March.  The conference theme is “Reparative Environmental History.”  We warmly encourage panel and paper submissions from Ottawa-area Africanists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Register Your Course for the Fall Incentive Program<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Professors are encouraged to register their courses for the Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) Incentive Program. The program enables students to earn a small portion of their final grade by attending 50-minute learning strategies and academic writing workshops designed to help them become more effective academic learners. Grade allocation and the number of workshops required for each course is left to the discretion of the professor. Further information about the Incentive Program can be found here<\/a> and professors can register by submitting a CSAS Faculty Request form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Potential Electives Courses<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Communication and Media is offering Introduction to COMM Studies course for non-majors. Formally, COMS 1000, COMS 1001 and 1002 are now first year (0.5cr) courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are offering a section C for both of the courses below, to all students outside of the BCOMS Major\/Minor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

COMS 1001 [0.5 credit]<\/strong> (Section C Only)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foundations in Communication and Media Studies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An exploration of past and present media, patterns of change, and key approaches to their study.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Includes: Experiential Learning Activity<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Precludes additional credit for COMS 1000, COMM 1101.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current Issues in Communication and Media<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
