Departmental events are also <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/news\/events-2\/\">posted on our website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"events\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Events<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"july-17-2019-introduction-to-cuportfolio-for-instructors\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>July 17, 2019 \u2013 Introduction to cuPortfolio (for Instructors)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Join the Educational Development Centre (EDC) on Wednesday, July 17 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for your introduction to ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´\u2019s electronic portfolio technology, cuPortfolio. This session will provide an overview of ePortfolios, review how they can be used to deepen and enrich learning and assessment, and provide a hands-on introduction to cuPortfolio. During the hands-on portion of the session, you\u2019ll learn the basics of cuPortfolio, such as how to create a portfolio, how to design a portfolio template, and how to use the features available in the tool to help assess ePortfolios. <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/edc\/cu_event\/introduction-to-cuportfolio-15\/\">Please register in advance here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"announcements\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Announcements<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"new-fall-2019-jour-course-open-to-non-journalism-majors\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>New Fall 2019 JOUR course open to non-Journalism majors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The School of Journalism and Communication&#8217;s Journalism program is running a seminar course called JOUR 3400 (Selected Topics in Journalism): Gender, Identity and Inequality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is open to non-journalism students in the fall term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as being informative and eye-opening, it will fulfill 0.5 credit of the B.A. Breadth Requirement. More details can be found on the attached flyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"call-for-papers\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Call For Papers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/aseh.net\/\">American Society for Environmental History<\/a> will hold its 2020 annual meeting in Ottawa, 25-29 March.&nbsp; The conference theme is &#8220;Reparative Environmental History.&#8221;&nbsp; We warmly encourage panel and paper submissions from Ottawa-area Africanists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The call for papers and submission instructions are available here:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/aseh.net\/conference-workshops\/2020-conference-ottawa-canada\/aseh-2020-call-for-papers\">https:\/\/aseh.net\/conference-workshops\/2020-conference-ottawa-canada\/aseh-2020-call-for-papers<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline is 12 July. For further information, please contact the program chair at <a href=\"mailto:Nancy_Jacobs@brown.edu\">Nancy_Jacobs@brown.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"register-your-course-for-the-fall-incentive-program\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Register Your Course for the Fall Incentive Program<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Professors are encouraged to register their courses for the Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) Incentive Program. The program enables students to earn a small portion of their final grade by attending 50-minute learning strategies and academic writing workshops designed to help them become more effective academic learners. Grade allocation and the number of workshops required for each course is left to the discretion of the professor. Further information about the Incentive Program can be <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/csas\/incentive-program\/\">found here<\/a> and professors can register by submitting a <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/csas\/faculty-requests\/\">CSAS Faculty Request form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"potential-electives-courses\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Potential Electives Courses<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Communication and Media is offering Introduction to COMM Studies course for non-majors.
