Maren Wood, who graduated from our MA History program, wrote an article in University Affairs entitled “Lessons learned from departments that support career readiness of grad students<\/a>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This article details observations following a series of workshops that Maren, as part of Beyond the Professoriate, hosted to help Ph.D.s navigate their career transitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A mission-driven organization that provides career education and professional development for graduate students and PhDs in humanities, social sciences and STEM disciplines who are interested in non-faculty career options. They provide services to individuals, and partner with institutions to support their efforts in empowering students and postdocs.<\/p>\n

Their content features PhDs with successful non-academic careers who share their unique expertise and experiences to support graduate students in their job search and future employment. Beyond the Professoriate is career advice by PhDs, for PhDs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Co-founders Jennifer Polk, PhD (history, University of Toronto), and L. Maren Wood, PhD (history, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), possess first-hand knowledge of the challenges PhDs encounter when they leave academia for careers beyond the professoriate. Maren and Jen (also a 杏吧原创 MA History alumna) have dedicated their careers to helping graduate students and PhDs find success outside of academia. The other two members of the team<\/a> are Susan Joudrey (杏吧原创 History Ph.D. alumna) and Meghan Lundrigan (杏吧原创 History Ph.D. candidate).<\/p>\n

Beyond the Professoriate runs a blog series for University Affairs<\/i><\/a> <\/i>and publishes in Inside Higher Ed<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n
