Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada<\/span>, will invest 10 Officers and 34 Members, including Chancellor’s Professor Norman Hillmer<\/a> of the History Department, into the Order of Canada<\/span> during a ceremony at Rideau Hall, on Friday, November 17, 2017, at 10:30 a.m<\/span>.<\/span> <\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n<\/b>Created in 1967, the Order of Canada<\/span>, one of our country’s highest civilian honours, recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Close to 7 000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order. Their contributions are varied, yet they have all enriched the lives of others and have taken to heart the motto of the Order: DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM (“They desire a better country”). Appointments are made by the governor general on the recommendation of the Advisory Council for the Order of Canada<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2017, the Order of Canada<\/span> marks 50<\/span> years of honouring Canadians. Celebrate the Order of Canada’s<\/span> 50th<\/sup> anniversary at OC50.gg.ca<\/b><\/a> and use the hashtag #OC50 <\/b>on social media platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
