\n Susanne Klausen Wins a William Evans Fellowship from the University of Otago\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Dr. Susanne Klausen<\/a> will be returning to New Zealand as a William Evans Fellow for February and March, 2016. The History Department at the University of Otago applied to bring Klausen to the university, where she will take part in a variety of events. During her visit she will give a public lecture on her recently published book on the history of abortion in South Africa, hold a postgraduate seminar for students across disciplines working on aspects of the history of reproduction, give a seminar on her new research on Sex and Shame in South Africa during Apartheid, and participate in a workshop on emotions and national history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Klausen says, “I am very excited about the prospect of returning to the University of Otago, which I first visited in February of this year to attend a wonderful colloquium on the history of eugenics. I very much look forward to discussing my work and ideas with students and scholars with shared interests. Perhaps best of all, I will be there in time to attend the national conference Making Women Visible, to be held in honour of Professor Barbara Brookes of the University of Otago’s History Department, an eminent historian whose highly-anticipated new study A History of New Zealand Women<\/i> will be launched at the conference. I greatly admire Barbara’s previous work on the history of abortion in Britain and am delighted to have the opportunity to help celebrate the launch of her important new book.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
