On April 1st  at 3pm<\/strong> in the History Dept Lounge (4th floor Paterson Hall), Dr. Kenneth Dewar, professor in the Department of History at Mount Saint Vincent University, will launch his new book Frank Underhill and the Politics of Ideas<\/em> (McGill-Queens UP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As our own Brian McKillop<\/a> writes, \u201cFrank Underhill was one of the best-known and most influential academic figures of his time.  Dewar draws on Underhill\u2019s life, thought, and career to reveal what he calls \u2018a window on the intellectual landscape of twentieth-century Canada.\u2019 He succeeds admirably.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Underhill was a Canadian journalist, essayist, historian, social critic, and political thinker; he came to Ottawa in 1955 as the curator of Laurier House and later joined our faculty at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´. He died in 1971.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Blair Neatby<\/a>, professor emeritus in the Department of History at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ and a former student of Frank Underhill\u2019s, will say a few words and then Dr. Dewar will speak about his book.  All are welcome.  Refreshments will follow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
