Up to three awards may be given each year. Two awards are designated for full-time faculty members (Professors and Lecturers) at any rank and one award is designated for a contract instructor teaching in FPGA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fpga\/about\/excellence-awards\/\">FPGA Excellence Awards<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"criteria-for-award\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Criteria for Award<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Excellence in teaching and teaching innovation may be demonstrated by any of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consistency in teaching excellence over time and across multiple courses at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ over the previous five years for full-time faculty members, and over at least the past two years (and a minimum of three courses) for contract instructors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commitment to student advising and engagement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successful innovation in curriculum or program design or in classroom instruction undertaken in the previous five years for full-time faculty members, and in at least the previous two years (and a minimum of three courses) for contract instructors.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The committee will look favorably on applications that demonstrate a willingness to engage in experimentation that has informed new approaches to instruction or curriculum design.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"applications\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Applications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty and contract instructors must self-nominate and apply. Chairs\/Directors and faculty colleagues are encouraged to approach a faculty member or contract instructor to express their support and to encourage their application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"application-package\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application Package<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must provide:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A current curriculum vitae<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A short statement (up to three pages) that outlines the nature of the applicant\u2019s teaching excellence and\/or innovation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optional letters of support from Chairs\/Directors and faculty colleagues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Selected student comments submitted as part of the end-of-term Student Experience Questionnaire process may be included\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Applicants should <em>not<\/em> solicit letters directly from students. Applicants may submit names of up to five (5) students to their Chair\/Director, who will solicit up to three confidential letters of support from this list on behalf of the applicant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other relevant materials including teaching scores, course outlines, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button has-custom-width wp-block-button__width-25\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fpga\/teaching-excellence-awards-application-form\/\">Apply Now<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"award-recognition\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Award Recognition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Recipients of the award will each receive a $1,000 (taxable) cash award, and a framed certificate. Recipients will also be featured in a Faculty profile online and on social media to highlight their achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"procedures-and-selection-committee\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Procedures and Selection Committee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants should use the application submission form on the ODFPGA website to upload their materials. <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Completed application packages must be received by Wednesday, March 18, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The selection committee for the Teaching Excellence Award is chaired by the Associate Dean, Academic. The award selection committee membership will normally consist of three FPGA faculty members who are past recipients of a FPGA Teaching Excellence Award, or a University, provincial, or national teaching award. The selection committee will make its recommendation to the Dean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Please note that since the Office of the Dean sponsors these awards, faculty and professional staff working in the Office of the Dean are not eligible for these awards nor may they provide nominations or letters of support for others.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Past winners are
