Self-made m\u00e9tis: examining the “Qu\u00e9bec m\u00e9tis” movement. <\/strong>A talk by Professor Darryl Leroux<\/a>, Saint Mary\u2019s University<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the past 15 years, tens of thousands of Quebeckers have begun calling themselves “m\u00e9tis,” despite having no ties to the historic M\u00e9tis community of the Red River. Who are they, and why do so many have past links with groups that have explicitly opposed Indigenous political claims?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darryl Leroux has spent years researching this emerging “Qu\u00e9bec m\u00e9tis” movement and will discuss his findings. Leroux also published a recent feature article in Maisonneuve magazine, “Self-made m\u00e9tis<\/a>,” and will explain how he turned his research into mainstream media work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maisonneuve editor-in-chief Selena Ross will also take part. Copies of the magazine will be on sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
