Watch out for the cliff-hanger at the end!<\/p>\n<h3>What is a Program Code?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the fourth element in a FOAPAL.\u00a0 It is four to six digits in length.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-3303\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/facts\/wp-content\/uploads\/ProgramCode-240x70.gif\" alt=\"ProgramCode\" width=\"446\" height=\"130\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/facts\/wp-content\/uploads\/ProgramCode-240x70.gif 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/facts\/wp-content\/uploads\/ProgramCode-160x47.gif 160w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 446px) 100vw, 446px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Program Code represents the functional use of each transaction (e.g. Instruction, Research, Administration).<\/p>\n<h3>What else is it called?<\/h3>\n<p>We believe that we are consistent in our use of the term \u2018program code\u2019.\u00a0 Have you heard us call it something different?\u00a0 Let us know (<a href=\"m&#97;&#105;&#x6c;&#x74;o:&#102;&#97;&#x63;&#x74;s&#64;&#99;&#97;&#x72;&#x6c;et&#111;&#x6e;&#x2e;&#x63;a\">&#x66;&#x61;&#x63;&#x74;&#x73;&#x40;&#x63;&#x61;&#x72;&#x6c;&#x65;&#x74;&#x6f;&#x6e;&#x2e;&#x63;&#x61;<\/a>)!<\/p>\n<h3>Why is the Program Code important?<\/h3>\n<p>As a university, we are required to report in a standardized way to both provincial and national associations that provide oversight. The program code is used by the Controller\u2019s Office to prepare financial reports that compare 杏吧原创\u2019s use of funding to other universities.<\/p>\n<p>Most of our financial systems either hide this element or provide a default value for this code.<\/p>\n<h3>The Take Away?<\/h3>\n<p>Apart from the Controller\u2019s Office, most of the university does not use this FOAPAL element.
